I have a question that regards the Camillus 1760 model knife, also referred to as a MIL-K818.
Would anyone know the type of stainless steel that was used to make the springs on these knives?
Also I’m wondering if the characteristics of this type of stainless steel would allow for tempering the spring steel using simple home workshop techniques or would need to be sent out to be properly tempered?

410HC (410 High Carbon) was the spring material.

At full hardness they came out of the furnace at about 50-52 Rc.
We then Tempered down to 43-45 Rc.

I do not recommend tempering significantly lower.
