Just for my own edification, what is the difference between the clip point and the drop point? What advantages does one have over the other?

I have both a BK2 and a BK9 and would like to know why the tips are different? I love them both and both work great. The only thing is when batoning with the 9 I notice that the baton gets chewed up at the tip a lot more then with the 2. So just thought I would throw this question out there.

Thanks,
:D

With its clip point, the BK7 always seemed like more of a fighting knife, or at least a potential fighting knife, for soldiers. However, such actual scenarios are likely few and far between. Of course, both the Campanion and the Combat Utility were marketed to the military with the SG (serrated) designation.

It's just a design difference. Maybe Ethan will chime in at some point and indicate why he chose the clip point for the 7 and the drop point for the 2.

Swamp Rat did both versions on their 7" chopper.
The original Ratweiler had more of a clip point. The Chopweiler had more of a rounded drop point.
For lots of reasons, but the lines among them, I always liked the clip point Ratweiler better.
I sold my Chopweiler. I carry my Ratweiler a lot.

Just so no one mistakes this thread for a Swamp Rat thread... ;)

And here are the SG military versions I mentioned.

And of course, if you want clip point in a BK-2-like package, you'd better be earning your Beckerhead patch soon. There are only so many blanks.

here's how i look at them
clip point is straight or concave
drop point is curved
spear point is an exaggerated drop so the point is centered in hand and the top and bottom of the blade is symmetrical

any of them can be sharpened.

Thanks Guyon for the info. Maybe Ethan can shed some light on the design choice.

BTW: I have always loved the look of the BK10 (Crewman). I want one!!!

Alot of what you see in the BK9/BK7/BK10, is required specs for military consideration. Ever notice those 3 are the only ones to have a jimped thumb ramp? Military specified must haves. The Clip point is also a military consideration. Thus the only 3 BKT models to have them, are the ones that were up for military contract consideration.

Some more info in the FAQ as well.

i like me some meat on the top and forward of my knife, esp for batoning, and potential for chopping.

we need a wharnecliffe :)

As I've posted before, I actually prefer clip points and plan to have a BK-2 modded for that reason. I also think that the clip on the 9 is too short and that it should have been 1/2-3/4" longer than it is. Just my preference.

send me a beat up 7 or 9 and I'll make you a wharnie out of it.

Guyon, that clip point BK2 si sweet. Working on the patch might take 3-4 more weeks, i here enough tolast that long?

That would be a BK10 Crewman. Out of prodction, but there is something in the works for a Beckerhead forum knife.

Just a suggestion, read up on the Bladite's Becker Blade FAQ, you'll see some stuff that will blow your mind. (Not trying to be a smartass, being serious)

I was exaggerating the urgency. :p
There is some talk, however, of an eventual forum knife based on some old Camillus BK-10 blanks that KaBar now has.
I don't know how many we're talking about, but I imagine the Beckerheads would be given priority in order of Beckerhead #. Not sure though.

I own too many knives, and I've been trying to sell some of them off.
Just sold a Busse, and I've got more to list next week.
You know you've got a problem when you find knives you've forgotten you own.
Then again, it sure is a durn nice surprise whenever it happens! :p

Uh oh, shouldn't have requested number 67 when it was under 50

Hmm, I'm in the market for a Busse-kin. I'll keep a look out for your posts.
