Anyone know of a good technique for smoothing out the sharp edges on the pins of the new GEC 71s? I have a denim micarta one and dang! Those are sharp.

thanks,

I have no idea, so I'd suggest a file on the pins followed by a polishing wheel on the resultingly scratched micarta.

Maybe safest to send it back and have GEC finish finishing it?

If you have a Sharpmaker, you can use the stones as a gentle file. I've removed many a burr or sharp edge with mine.

That could be a good solution "brownshoe" but it might be pretty tedious as the pins are closely surrounded by the cover. Well worth trying though.

I used a flat piece of metal and some higher grit (600-1200) sandpaper to take the pins down on my Green Micarta #72. Worked perfect for me! Nail file/emery board, small file etc would work as well.

Put blue painter's tape over it, start filing with a rat tail file. It grinds away the tape over the humped up pin, while providing some protection to the scales.

I take it you refer to the two brass pins on top of the scales, not the steel pivot pin?

As suggested, a white ceramic Sharpmaker rod is useful for filing pins but I also find running a strop over pins and or sharp edged bolsters is effective. Must say I'm surprised you have raised pins, my Maroon Micarta has really smooth flush pins, as they should be. Perhaps you should tell GEC to fix it?
