I struggle with blending handle material into metal bolsters. Always end up with the handle material below the metal bolsters forming a ridge. I can’t seem to find the right touch or technique.

any advice?

Maybe don't do final finish on the bolster until the handle is attached so you can blend them by sanding both together where they meet?

Use a hard backer when hand sanding. Hard like steel. The softer the backing the more you'll get bumps!
Also make sure you're pulling your sand paper TIGHT!
Also watch "hand sanding 101" by nick wheeler on YouTube.

Also one thing is to make sure that the mating surfaces are flat. I find that just 120 grit sandpaper and glass gets them flat enough
