Techno disassembly?

Hello everyone! This is my first spyderco, and my first post in the spyderco forum. I got my new techno on Saturday, and I have a couple questions. I am unable to adjust the pivot screw, so I assume it's loctited together. Will submerging it in hot water loosen up the loctite? I was also looking at cuscadi custom backspacers, but I don't know if taking the knife apart to install one will void my warranty. Any informed answers are welcome!

Using hot water to loosen loctite works for me. As for the warranty regardless of the company I look at it as if I'm going to take it apart I have to accept the responsibility of any damage.

Warranty is void if the knife has been taken apart.
But then again there's not a lot that can go wrong with a Techno so roll the dice. Just be careful getting the washers lined up correctly on reassembly. That's about the only thing that can go wrong really except for the odd stripped screw. Just use care and don't force or over-tighten anything and you should be good.

Boiling water will soften the Loctite. I have used Loctite (242/blue) on everything that can use it and I have never needed to heat a screw to disassemble it, and I have never stripped a Loctited screw.

You can go read Spyderco's warranty on their website. I believe it says disassembly voids the warranty, but in practice, as long as you dis/assemble the knife properly you should be OK.

Off topic but I find the Techno to be as easy to take down; clean, and put back together as a seb. Enjoy.

I use loctite a lot at work, and we typically use a heat gun to soften it up, but I don't want to risk discoloring the titanium with it... I guess I will try some boiling water :). How long should I soak it?

PS: I've taken apart an reassembled plenty of knives, including speedsafes with no problems. I've never seen a pivot screw this stuck before though.

The first time opening the Techno, the pivot was rather hard even with two torx drivers on both sides but I was able to pop it off without hot water or anything.

I just dipped the screw part of the knife into boiling water for 10 seconds or so. Then take it out and unscrew.
If it's still stuck, put it back in for another 10 seconds and try again.

A soldering iron works well and you don't have to heat the blade.

Do you guys think it would be possible to switch out the backspacer without loosening the pivot screw?

Yes. There are 2 "D" shaped threaded ferrules (Not sure what they're really called) that hold everything together. Start unscrewing and the ferrules will come right out then the backspacer will drop out.
