Anyone here collect or respect the work of Ted Dowell? The makers of the Knifemakers' Guild have the opportunity to finish out a few of Ted's original blades. Personally I'm looking forward to it. Ted was the original man behind the scenes, responsible for the original bylaws and the first Guild show.

His Son was at the last OKCA show with some of his Father’s work. Still stunning as ever and there were a couple pieces I don’t believe many today could come close to equaling.

Ted Dowell built custom rifles before venturing into custom knives. He was the first or one of the first to build integeral knives. Spoke w/ his wife at the 1st ICCE show in Kansas City Mo. Very nice Lady. I have one if his knives, tho not an integeral.

Jeff Dowell (Ted's Son) placed an ENORMOUS amount of time, energy, and money re-acquiring his Dad's work, and creating/maintaining his legacy through his website.

TMDKnives.com

He contracted me to chronicle many of his most important his pieces at the 2024 AKI Show. I captured over 25 incredible works. Mine and other's images are spread throughout his Gallery.

MAJOR props to Jeff for supporting his Mother and Father so they continue to live on!

Good thread.

This a month old, but I got one of his integrals about a year ago. Bob Dozier has been teaching me to make knives and when I got the TMD, I took it over to Bob's one day. He is 85 now and can't see well at all, has days that are worse than others. I handed him the Ted Dowell knife and he held it for a minute and said "I can't see it, but I can tell this is a Ted Dowell knife." I can't think of a better compliment than that! I just made a deal to acquire a second one, very impressed at everything I have seen by him.
