Ted Dowell

Yep, it has everything. Integral construction, ivory, and a famous engraver. :)

Coop,

As always, fantastic photography. I saw that knife on Knife Legends. Simply elegant. If I remember correctly, it sold in about 1 day.

I have one from him, a semi integral with stag handles. He makes a great integral and has a superb eye for flow.

One of my favorite knives of his is a one piece, all steel knife in one of the Point of Interest books. It's engraved with a scene of duck hunt I believe.

Yep, I know the duck hunt knife. Pommel area seperates like wings.

There is another knife in one of the Points of Interest books that has ebony scales and is integral Damascus with a buttcap, but guardless. I think it is laying on an African safari book. Again, very simple, but flowing.

Ever notice how those knives never come to market. :grumpy:

you don't often see Ted's integrals but his "lite" ones do come up but to me they are not of the same class. However, I keep my eyes open lol.

I wonder what his delivery time is or if he is even taking orders.

He was still taking orders the last time I talked to him, but that was a couple of years ago. He only made a couple of models then, but the full integral was one of them. I don't know what his delivery time is. His contact info is available on the Knifemaker's Guild website.

Last week, I emailed Mr. Dowell about remaking the knife on Page 55 in Points of Interest Book 2. Over the weekend, he left me a telephone message saying that he was close to retirement and was only making a few integral cap and hilt knives and a few kitchen knives. :(

Moral: Hold on to your Dowell knives.

When I talked to him a while ago, those were the same ones he told me he was still making. Still, that means a person can get one of his full integrals. For all those interested, now would be the time to step up.

OK, I'm 10 years late to this post, but I'd rather have a Ted Dowell knife than any other. Something about those integral knives just seem beautiful to me.
