I had the pleasure of very briefly meeting Mr. and Mrs. Dowell in 2011, and they both struck me as kind and soft spoken, respectful people.
My condolences to those close to the Dowell family. His knives were top on the line.

RIP Ted.

I have spoken to him many times over the years at knife shows and he was always a pleasure to speak with him and his wife.

VERY sad news. ANOTHER talented knifemaker, engraver, and designer no longer with us!

I have admired his knives and engraving for years.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Peter

He was a fine knife maker and wonderful artist. A very fine gentleman indeed who will certainly be missed..

Smoke and Prayers.. May God Bless.

Best,
Anthony

My Dad met Ted while Ted was still teaching math at COCC in 1968. Our family has 2 very rare carving sets - including TMD carving forks!, rosewood handles. After making them (in the early '70's, I think), he swore he'd never make another fork. Dad has a small knife that Ted was unhappy with and had literally thrown at a tree in disgust - still a darn nice knife! He was a perfectionist.

Ted suffered tremendously after losing his oldest son to a fiery Ford Pinto rear ender many years ago. I don't think he ever got over it. His wife Betty is a Saint.
