I was looking at old knife magazines last night. On page 41 of the July 1996 Fighting Knives magazine was a picture of Mr. Lucaylucay with Kelly Worden,Taky Kimura, and Professor Leonard Trigg. The caption lists him as the "late" Ted Lucaylucay. What happened? I recently purchased his tape on the "Pocketstick".It was enjoyable.I was sorry to hear of his departure.

From what I understand Guro Lucaylucay had suffered from Asthma most of his life and died from congestive heart failure. I was fortunate enough to attend a couple of seminars with him. He was an excellent instructor and seemed like a really nice guy. It was a sad day for FMAs when he passed away.

Attitude Is Everything!

I was a student of Guro Ted's in the 80's and I am an instructor under him. In private conversations with Guro Ted he told me that he had a small congenital heart problem as well as asthma. He didn't want this known at the time as he didn't want it to effect how people saw him or trained with him. His doctors advised him not to particpate in the martial arts, but this is what Guro Ted loved and lived for and he made a quality of life decision. It is my understanding that he was visitng his sister in California and passed away in his sleep.

Guro Ted was the finest person I've ever trained under or with. He loved the martial arts and he was always happy to train and share with anyone else who was interested. Formal classes ended at 9:00 o'clock, but there was many nights we would ask him some good questions and training would last until 1:00 in the morning or later. He left an excellent legacy on videos available thru I&I Sports and Unique Publications.

Having just "Met" him through his stick videos,I was surprised to hear of his passing. My belated condolences to his friends and family.
