I'm 14 years old (I live in Texas) and like to carry knives around to places I think it's ok to take them. I was just wondering if it is legal for me to do so. Also I just got an account, so if there's anything I should know that would be nice.

Matterock,
Welcome to Bladeforums. As a fellow Texan I feel obliged to inform you it is YOUR responsibility to be in compliance with the Texas Penal Code Ch. 46 (weapons) and any/all city ordinances for your area. There are more than a few places you are NOT legally able to take an edged weapon/tool into.. and if you are caught doing so your youth will not help you in a court of law. Best advice is to do thorough research before you decide to go anywhere with your knives. If you wish feel free to contact me via PM or email with additional questions.
Regards,
Bandito

Bandito gives good advice, it doesn't matter if you "think it's OK" or anything along those lines, what the law says is what matters. What it really comes down to for the most part is that the places you cannot take a knife are mostly common sense (airport secured areas, schools, court etc). As for knives (at least on the state level), less than 5.5" blade length and single edged only...some cities have local limits that are more restrictive (such as San Antonio and Corpus Christi).

Given your age, I would definitely suggest not carrying anything too "weapon like", such as large folders/fixed blades and more exotic knives like karambits...it's not illegal, but no one is going to give a teenager carrying a karambit then benefit of the doubt. Stick to the less threatening options, such as a SAK or maybe a Case.

Don't carry anything you don't mind losing. Cops like to take things from kids.

Fixed for you.

Kid, I think it's just a damn shame that you have to even ask such questions. I have carried some kind of knife with me since I joined the Cub Scouts in Dallas back in the mid-'60. There was a time when common sense was the general rule. Alas, no longer.
