A Pit Bull dog met his match when he tangled with a Mountain Lion.

The incident happened as 19-year-old Marquel Dawson was throwing a tennis ball to the family’s two-year-old pitbull named Stunna Wednesday afternoon in a Fairfield neighborhood not far from I-80.

"I ran into my house full speed, grabbed my sword, ran all the way back,” said Dawson. “By the time I got back it was on top of him. I swung the sword one time and hit it and made a loud noise and then it took off running."

I wonder what this will do to the tactical wakazashi sales!

Just read the full article, good story! To bad he didn't have a hefty fixed blade on on him. Maybe he could have taken care of business a little quicker.

Animal behaviour is always interesting. Sounds like the dog sensed something, went into the bushes, came back out and let his buddy know whats up and ran back in to fight. Animals bond with us in a real interesting way and have instincts that have evolved over millions of years. Maybe he ran back out to let it be known he needed a hand. I'm looking into it way to deep I'm sure. I do have 4 parrots though, and it blows my mind how animals can interact with us, and in living with them you see many traits and instincts that are incredible, almost unbelievable;

"We walk past this bush and he looks at the bush, runs in the bush, runs back out looks at me with his fur sticking up, aggressive,” remembered Dawson as he described the scene. “And then he darts into the bush and I hear tussling around. Then I walk over there to see what's going on and he's fighting with like this big cat the size of a police German shepherd."

Not too deep at all, I think that's exactly what the dog was "saying". I've seen the same behavior when a dog wanted us to follow him.

Soon every home will have one of THESE! :D

thank God Marquel was there !! just think, if he actually had a job or was in school that poor dog would have been killed. :D

It sounds to me like homey needs to learn how to sharpen a blade.
If I swing my sword full tilt, that kitty cat won't be running anywhere.

I wondering at any of the swinging, I could hit mah own dog. Now pushing it in up to the handle and waggling it 'till I hit something important...

Good reason to carry a shillelagh, or my Canemasters.
I give the man credit for standing up for his dog.

Looks like it wasnt a Cougar that was kicking Pitbulls A$$ it was a Racoon. Surprising he couldn't tell the difference between a racoon and a cougar. Racoons are tough animals, I have seen them take on pretty big dogs and win. I had a Lab that used to hunt them down, kill them and bring them home and leave them in the front yard. Probably killed 12-15 Coons.

Could anybody really be dumb enough to mistake a raccoon for a cougar? Sounds like this kid is another fine example of the xbox generation :thumbdn:

Edit: And I agree Raccoons can be mean SOB's...

I could be wrong, but my first guess is, somebody is looking for attention. You can sure impress a lot of girls by telling them you went up against a Cougar to save your puppy!
A Racoon, just isn't as impressive, that is a story that doesn't get around.

I wonder if that tracker they brought to look at the tracks corroborated the "It was about the size of German shepherd police dog -- like big -- about twice the size of my dog,"

I would love to find an authentic Shillelagh:thumbup: Cold Steal use to sell quite nice ones, but have since good to a synthetic material.

And yes, major kudos for backing up his K9:thumbup: Unconditional love and loyalty should only be repaid in kind.
