After reading Chang's post (the flag is great), I decided that a lot of adults act like they think we are responsible, but they REALLY think we aren't!

Well, I just wanted them to know that even though I carry a Spyderco Native around nearly everywhere except school, I have not once cut someone else with it. At least on accident. WELL, it wasn't really THAT bad, was it?

In all seriousness, I frequently forget that my Taiwanese/Champaignese and Australian friends are all that much younger than the majority of BF users. Maybe we are exceptions to the rule, but maybe it just shows that age doesn't really matter that much, just attitude.

P.S.-- When I am a Four Star I'll help you with your little revolution, Chang. Perhaps you should mark your Changmade knives, "Made By Taiwan, in USA", and send the profits to your followers back home.

Nah, my followers in Taiwan probably make more money than I do! Made by Taiwan, in USA sounds alright, but I consider myself American so why not just put USA? Either way, Southern Taiwan shall rise again, and there is no stopping them!

Well, actually, i disagree Stiletto. I've been here for a while, and i've never been treated with anything but courtesy and respect. I feel that the community here is very accepting of people under 18, and i really have no complaints.

I have never been treated with any difference. But I think I have to attribute that to nobody knowing that I am a teenager. Now that people know, I will see if they act differently.
THANKS!!!

While some posters are obviously 'childish,' there are those who are over 18 who I would hesitate to call 'adult.' Since it is basically impossible to find out the age of any poster, I think it is a great credit to many of you that I never 'categorised' you as being under 18 until I saw you post something saying that you were. Kudos to having some responsible young knife knuts around.

I would like to give my views on this subject if I may... First off, I didn't know that there were young people on this site; And you know, I never even thought about it. I also have no objection of anyone young being on the forums. It is after all, a place where you can learn a lot about knives, and knife making, but I do have a concern, and that concern is... It is illegal to sell knives to minors! Now don't get me wrong, I don't think an 18 year old person shouldn't be able to carry a knife, but where is the line drawn? Given that last statement, the real problem I have is the legality of the situation. It is illegal to sell knives to a minor period! I myself do not want to be responsible, or to be held responsible for selling a knife to a minor.

I think this forum should ban minors from buying knives, unless their parents buy it for them. There was an incident on Blade Auction a while back. A minor bought an automatic knife off the auction, and his parents found out about it, and raised holy hell. his parents contacted the seller, and threatened the seller with jail, and law suits. His parents even had the district attorney call the seller. Now the more I think about this, the more I'm starting to worry. I'm glad that I just have, and know all the people that I deal with. I think this forum should definitely do something about this situation.

Hi all. First, let me sound off as another teenager particpating in these forums(19 if your wondering). Second, why don't you think 18 year olds should carry knives narruc? I have been collecting tactical folders since the day I turned 18(my own personal B-day present actually). Since then I have been studying knife production, artistry, and even self-defense applications. I feel I am quite responsible in regards to the carry, and use of my knives. Though I can relate to your point, maybe you envision some 18 year old punck with a knife terrorizing other people or using a knife to make himself feel big, and that is a valid concern. I on the other hand am a full time student, part time receptionist at my church, and have recently become an assistant scoutmaster with the B.S.A. after having been a scout since the 6th grade. Now I appear longwinded so I'll finish with this, I don't think age should be the determining factor of knife posession, but knowledge, responsibility, and intenetion.

Oops! Sorry, narruc. I slightly misread your post, but I think my point still stands. Sorry once again.

Just so nobody misunderstands, this is supposed ot be in jest, and I have not experienced discrimination. In fact, I have found that you will receive mondo kudos from adults when they find out that they have been having a good correspondence with a young person.

No, Chang is not a janitor, he is a genius, like Good Will Hunting. Err... he was a janitor.

BUY CHANGMADE... or else...

narruc, it's not necessarily illegal to sell a knife ot a minor. In some states/localities, it is, but in some others it is not. Check your state and local laws.

I think it is a pretty tough call to say someone 18 is a 'minor' though it may be so legally. I know it isn't usually the case nowadays but I was out of my parents house about 10 days after graduation and being '18'! I had a full time job, a part time job, owned guns and knives though not 'autos' as it wasn't till I got on here that I knew they still existed. Some buddies of mine moved out at 15, got together and rented an apartment, still finished high school, etc! Anyway, my point is, my parent's were not legally responsible for me at 18 and in my wife's case she was legally an 'emancipated minor' at 17 relieving her parents of all legal burden. So, in my own mind, if you're outta high school whether that be 17/18/19 you're a 'full fledged' adult. As far as being under 18 and still at home I'm not sure what the difference would be. I never had ANY trouble getting or being offered ANYTHING when I was growing up so I think it is probably the same with you guys here and it is only YOUR good judgement that helps you in those situations and more power to you in that respect. The fact that minors of any age can come to a place like this and communicate as professionally and easily as I've seen most of you in this post do is nothing short of the heart of my point. You guys demonstrate an extraordinary level of maturity and I don't think you should be punished for that nor limited in any way. However, the point is still valid in that YOU might be cool people but what if your PARENTS are a bit edgey and, like in the case mentioned above, freak out.? Just wondering if you guys who are younger could view from an older persons perspective what you would want done. I'm not sure there is a solution that would satisfy everyone regarding this but am interested in all opinions. 18 AINT a TEEN in my humble opinion!

Well, some people were right, the flag took bandwith and if everyone had a flag, slow modem users would die.

Anyways, I'm on vacation and I gotta run. See ya in a couple weeks

I'm a teen (14), and I'm more responsible with knives than anyone I know--young or old. My parents--they still try to force the blade shut on folders without disengaging the lock and they nearly cut their fingers off fumbling open the knife blade if ever they try. My older brothers and their friends--I frequently catch them playing with my knives, throwing them up in the air and catching them, and having vicious knife fights with invisible enemies. I treat my knives with respect and I handle them with caution. I must be responsible enough, seeing as how I have lived to tell the story.

I'd guess that almost all the people here on the forums are okay with teens having knives as long as they are responsible. After all, a lot of the people here got into knives when they were young as well. As we know, simply putting a dangerous object into a person's hands doesn't make them a danger.

Soloman brings up a very important issue though, namely that of people around us who aren't so responsible or safe around cutlery. Be sure to securely store the parts of your collection that you don't wear around if you have any of those kinds of people in your home. And be careful about who you allow to handle your knives. While some of my friends are responsible enough not to do stupid things, I've kept in mind one who probably should avoid sharp objects . . .

And since I know some of the teens just graduated from high school a few months ago and are headed off to college like myself, be sure to let your room mate know that you will have some knives around and to not touch them if they don't know what they're doing. Part of being responsible means being responsible about the safety of others.

I would like to say that there is A young man on the forums who goes by Lukers. His name is Luke Freeouf and he is 15. He is also A custom knife maker who actually Hand Forges all his knives. His work is first class. As A matter of fact I carry A small fixed blade he forged as my daily carry. This kid is way ahead of A lot of adulrts I know. I guess you can't judge someone by their age. BTW if you need A knife made I reccomend Luke. You can email him at

I have not experienced any demeaning comments since I'm a teen (16) all the while I've been on bladeforums. I think that some people do treat others differently as soon as they find out that they are under 18 but everyone here has been great. I own 12 balisongs (butterfly knives) and have never mishandled them at all, I respect all weapons, be it knife or gun I've used them all (target shooting with the gun, and utility work with my knives). Total I have almost 40 knives in my collection and I use them all at one point or another. Thanks for reading all that crap, I think I'll take my pills now.
