Does anyone know a source for the material nylon or nylatron washers are made of in sheet form?? Or an outfit that sells the washers in bulk quantities?

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

MikeBo, Tom Anderson told me some places that sell them. Texasknifemakers supply and I think K&G sell them. With the bronze washers, dirt gets ground into them, making them gritty. The nylotron absorbs the dirt and doesnt affect the action, and from what I have heard about the teflon ones is that with temperature changes or high heat, they get gummy. I will try to dig up the place Tom told me to get nylatron from and talk to you in MIRC tonight!

If I'm not mistaken I think MSC had it in their gigantic catalog in both .010 and .020 thicknesses. Uncut sheets or rolls.

I'm thinking of getting a punch kit as well to make my own washers.

I bought some from MSC in the roll form and made my own punches out of golf club shafts....had to sharpen them carefully, but they punched clean holes.....sure a lot cheaper to resharpen them than to buy a punch set.

Outstanding Forumites, thanks!!! I'm gonna make a punch plate for a couple sizes and get some drill rod to use for punching the centers. If your punch matches the hole in the plate closely, you don't need to sharpen them, just gotta be accurate. Thanks again!!

Mike In autos I use one nylarton and one teflon. The knife has to be within .001 or closer - overall for the teflon to work on manual or autos.
As most makers do you have to perload the teflon about.001-.002 with your width tolerence. The nylaton takes less preload.
