Sal,

I'm kinda new here so forgive this sill question.

I've handled couple of other one-hander opener with teflon bearing and up till now the action's very smooth. Also handle Spyderco's knives with non-metallic handles ...... smooth action but with those riveted metallic handle its kinda tight.

I know it's design this way so as to be able to be 'broken in' (can't tighten the rivets at home) but just wondering whether spyderco is using any or shall use in the future any wonder bearing (teflon or otherwise) to provide the smoother action (if possible).

Thanks in advance

I am with you on having a smoother NIB action- with washers or whatever else is neccesary. I can understand how some would want to "break" in a knife, but if I am paying $100+ than I feel that I should not have to strugle to get it into that kind of shape. Just my opinion though.

Try getting your hands on the original Peter Herbst (with the titanium scale). One smooth cycling Spyderco. I suspect the use of teflon or some similar washer on this knife.

just read this in another post about Herbst knives.

Peter taught me to make folders the way he does: robust, and built to last. The knives have a bronze bushing in the blade for smooth operation and don't require loctite to control the pivot
