Teflon Coating

Hey Dave...
I have two EDC knives that are oxide coated. Don't know if it helps. The only teflon I think I have is in the kitchen and at work (peeps that don't take any responsibility...everything slides right off 'em).

The top pic shows the effect of the ball detent on the finish. I include it to reference in that the marks on the blades of the two knives pictured that do have marks...but not to the point where the raw steel is showing. Just surface blemish...so far.

The top 889 is my orginal Idaho stamped SBMF that saw months of use.
The bottom 889 on the 882 frame has seen daily use for weeks now.

I do have a 110BP CPM154 that has seen use and the blade is flawless so far as scratching. I believe that this is a result of the mfg of the steel itself and not an oxide "coating".
Maybe I'll post that later.

How will the black teflon coated blades hold up for everyday general use?

They hold up. It depends on what you use it for though!
My nighthawk has marks in it... some from me and some from Goose. :)
None major or deep though, just mainly from sheath removal.

My black catapult blade has some very fine marks in it (down to the steel) it looks like steel wool was taken to it almost. I used it to cut up carpet into strips so the "fussy" garbageman would pick it up:mad:

Goose you are correct also, the CPM154 Bass pro and the Cabelas S30V knives have a titanuim nitride? "coating" that is fused to the blade, kinda like the ionfusion/buckcotes. They are very hard to mark or mar up!
I have yet to wear any off on my Ionfusion 110. ;)
