Teflon Spray bad for Teflon washers

I took apart an older folder with teflon washers, I''ve sprayed it in the past with Teflon Spray, now for my question. I've noticed that the teflon washer looks like a solvent spill melted the washer, not bad but, bad enough that I noticed. Does the solvent/propellant in the can affect the teflon washer or harm it in anyway?(considering that it does keep the teflon in the can in suspension)

Interesting question. Considering how they try to idiot-proof the instructions now days, you'd think a manufacturer would include that as a warning.

After sharpening, I wipe down all of my hard-use knives with Tuff-Cloth and lubricate the pivot with CLP-Breakfree or black moly grease. Then again, I haven't taken any of my knives apart to inspect them recently.

It would seem like a teflon washer would be an easy replacement part to get from the manufacturer. The postage would probably be more than the washers. Keep us informed on this, all of our knives have some type of pivot washers--except for the fixed blade guys.

nope, the stuff that keeps the teflon in suspension in the can can't affect your washers, because it is too fast to evaporate. Besides.. teflon can't be sprayed unless it has a katalyst included too to make it hard when it reaches out of contact of the spray gasses.

I know people use teflon spray for bullets, but also for grinder platens under glass. I dunno what caused the washers to solve, but I sincerley doubt it would be the spray. In any case... if you got your knife dissassembled... polish the inside of the blade and wipe it down with clean fresh car grease, pivot too. then screw back together, real hard so the excess grease comes out, wipe clean. I doubt you'll need to lubricate this one for a while.

oh balistol is IMHO the best oil/lubricant/stabilizer ever..give it a try.

greetz and take care, Bart.
