Tekut Knives?

So, roaming around my local sporting goods store today, I look under a glass counter and a large (9"+Oal) tanto folder catches my eye. Its made by a brand I have never heard of, Tekut. Doing some research I found out that the blade is 7Cr17MoV and the handle is G10. And its only $30. And I found out the local police are outfitted with this brand of cutlery. Has anyone heard of this brand, if you have what are your experiences/thoughts.

i cant say anything for tekut, i can however for 7cr17mov steel, dajo uses it. Its quite an interesting steel, IMO it holds an edge better (even though it has .1 less carbon) then a lot of the 8cr13mov steels ive used, and it has higher rust resistance

I had the Ares Tanto for a few days, but never used it.
The knife is certainly quite well made, somewhat thin.
Similar to a GI Tanto, and I remember a hollow grind.
The Tanto tip angle was quite extreme.
It was not quite my taste and the handle felt very rough on my hands.
Because of all the ridges and "tactical" grooving.
The sheath seemed of below mediocre quality, but useable.
Not kydex in my perception, but black "hard plastic" with a strange fine wood grain finish.
Here is their homepage:

It seems a good value overall and is not in the mall-ninja-league imho.
I would rate it a good inexpensive emergency cutter, if you wish to justify the purchase ;)

If i get one i'm going for the Ares tanto folder. It didn't look like a mall-ninja knife, and it reminded me of the Strider SNG Tanto Folder.

My wife and I both have Tekut knives and both carry the ares fixed blade as well as the folder.
I carry both my knives at work and I've never had a problem with it, its a tough durable knife that seems to take any punishment that gets thrown at it.
The only downside is the sheath for the fixed blade which doesn't seem all that good but servicable, I've only used that a couple of times as I had other sheaths made for it.
Both my wife and I love the blades and enjoy training with them.

What exactly is the local police supposed to use these knife for? I guess depending on the answer we can decide if it is in fact cool or what. If police is outfitted with these knives to use in case of civil riots, cutting throats to some hard-core criminals who are no good even for a cort of law and prison, to use as a last defence when they run out of electrical charge in their shockers, gas and gun ammo - than obviously that would be a cool knife. If they given these knives to, whell, to use as a tool - than that is probably just a cheap knife which is easy to sharpen (which is good, because you will have to do it pretty often) and not to expensive to replace when it gets lost of breaks on you...

The cr mov steels are not any where near that bad- now how this company uses them and heat treats them may be though

Apparently the local LEO's who search for the Marijuana grows around here are outfitted with them. I don't know why, i'm just saying what I've seen. But they say they're quite durable.

Just kidding... I probably meant to say that in this particular case the price and the make could have been the main consideration. That's all.

I carry and use an Ares A and have just recently become a dealer with them and have absolutely nothing bad to say about the blades or the company itself. They outfit the Chinese military and police with their knives and flashlights, oh by the way if you are into flashlights check out the Nextorch MyTorch, you can program the flashlight itself with your computer to do what you want; brightness, strobe, morse code, very fun to play with.

I got introduced to Tekut knives though this forum. I now have eight and I'm very impressed with quality of the knives. The one I have are in a variety of blade steels. My favorite is the Esort B. I have an Area A and am going to buy a Ares son. The Ares A is very extreme in apperance but is very funtional. IMO its the best Chinese knife that I've found for the price you pay. I've bought the higher end models. Does anybody know which models the Chinese and American police carry?

I don't know of any 5.0 that carry this brand. This thread was from 2011

First time I saw the brand was recently on MD and no one really knows much about them other then the specs. Tbo the most recent model looks nice, has sandvik steel g10 liner lock. Not bad for the money. Doesn't copy any brand that I know. The adjustable pocket seems to be innovative . Not sure if tekut themselves have a factory or if they are putting there name on on a knife they designed but manufactured by someone else in china or something else. Anyway, I'm not really into that type of blade steel but it's better than all the other budget knives, especially for the $.

Instead of buying the Ares, why don't you wait 2 weeks, save up an extra $10, and buy the CRKT original?

I hate to be "that guy," but really ...

I bought an Ares (fixed) a few years ago on a whim. I don't remember if I ever cut anything with it, but these days, it resides in a "go bag" with a number of other misfit toys.
