Does anyone have 'em an like 'em? Know where to get them (Home Depot only sells them on-line)? Why do the 12.5' ones claim to have the same length of a 16' extension ladder (I know there's some overlap on the extension ladders, but 3.5'?)? I'm tired of playing Russian roulet climbing up my ghetto 180 lb. load rated 16' extension ladder

Google 'Little Giant' for the ultimate USA made ladder. They aren't cheap but are superbly made and will last a lifetime. I've had mine for years and use it for everything from home repairs to tree pruning. Mine will quickly convert from a 22' straight ladder to a step ladder to a scaffold and even breaks apart into two six foot ladders for use as a scaffold.

I have the little giant type 1 (250lb rating) since I only weigh 160lbs. I was using it for home inspections so I didn't have two people on it or carry heavy loads of roofing shingles up it, etc.

If I was using it more hardcore I'd go with the type 1A which we have at work. It's a heavy beast that we call "that damn ladder" due to it's weight (22' model weighs 85lbs.) but it's proven invaluable.

I love my ladder even as a household tool as it's very versatile, light and folds up small enough to fit in the back of my hyundai elantra. I forget if I have the 17 or 22 but it was worth every penny.

They also have a fiberglass version for electricians.

We have a Little Giant (the one with 300 lb capacity). It is great, but it is very heavy. We use it for everything from step ladder to fully extending it to paint the house. It is handy to have it for everything in between as well. For a "one ladder" family, its great.

IIRC, Lowes sells a "Little Giant" type of ladder and it's much less expensive and still very well made.

I use lots of ladders and that is one thing you cant go cheap on. I have used a Little Giant and then a off brand version (home depot I think). The Little Giant was a much better ladder. Smother telescoping movements and stable. The only down side is they are HEAVY compared to a traditional ladder. Its the best choice if you can only have one or know you will work with uneven surfaces.

I have the Gorilla ladder sold at home despot - rated for 300 pounds, which is good if I'm hauling building materials up it.
I like it a lot -- it was indispensible while building the house.

That's one of the reasons I went with the type1 instead of 1A. The other was cost. I can move the heavier one around by myself just fine but don't really enjoy it.

My company just bought all Field techs the Xtend & climb. I haven't really used it yet and most likely will not. It looks freaky to me, I may give it a shot if I feel the need. I like the concept it just looks like it will take my fingers off while folding it up..
