Tell me about compounds...

Hey guys, recently i made a few strops in my spare time(leather glued to wood) and a friend let me borrow some green compound, now im looking to get my own compound and there seems to be some options out there, for example are these any good?

Dino, I've been using the .5 micron, green for years and it works fine . I can get a brick of it for 5-6$ which will last a lifetime . The diamond I've not used as the very small amount and high cost don't justify . Your choice . DM

I like the DMT 6 and 3 micron but the 1 is a waste to me because I have other/better 1 and lower micron compounds. The carat count in the diamond compound is what makes the difference, DMT compound has about 1 carat while products like HA diamond spray go up to 21 carat. The higher the carat the faster it works.

Amplex diamond compound found at classicshaving.com is also a good paste compound, its better than the DMT but not as good as the HA (HA= handamerican products)

If you don't mind me piggybacking onto your thread, I have a question as well.

Is it possible to remove compound from a strop so you can load it with another? I have been using some crappy stuff from the local hardware store and I want to upgrade to one of the compounds mentioned above.

WD-40 on a rag works very well to remove oil based compounds.
