I'm finally able to get back to deer hunting after having to take a couple years off. I used to know my hunting area well and had a good idea about the deer patterns there. But now I'm thinking that a deer cam would help my get a jump start on the time I have left this year, but I know nothing about them. Any info would be helpful. Info on what to look for? and what to stay away from would be GREAT!!

I have a few trail cams and can offer a few bits of info. First off buy good batteries for them, they last longer and some cameras just don't work properly with cheap batteries. Add to that the fact that I once used cheap batteries and had them blow up in the camera ruining it. As far as brands know people who like their tasco and bushnell cameras. Personally prefer my Moultrie's for value as well as customer service. I would never buy a stealthcam after a few people I know having issues. I know a guy who owns a hunting store and he stopped carrying them. Their customer service has been crap in my experience. My uncle had one that was DOA and one that quit after a couple weeks. He sent both back and after 6 months he got one back. Wasn't even his and had someone else's name carved in the back. Three month after that he received the second one back, it was not his either and was a factory refurb. When I buy something new that doesn't work, I expect a NEW replacement not a used refurb. From what I have heard from a a few people, if you have a stealthcam and it dies, toss it.
