I am considering buying an Emerson because I love the design, is the lock-up on these knives that bad? PLease let me know what your feelings on this brand are?

Thanks, Steve

My Emerson Commander is a brute with buttery action. Locks up tighter than a bull's ass on fight night.

I had a Benchmade Emerson CQC-7 and loved it. Got the real Emerson CQC-7 and it was even better. Both were my primary folder while serving in the Army. Only thing that took adjusting to was the Chisel grind edge.

Mine locks up tighter than a frog's ass in a puddle of ice water!

(so there! ;) )

the lock up on EKIs is just fine. sure some have probs but imho EKI has no more in that regard the BM/spyderco/etc, and the EKI warranty is also good.

i doubt ya will have a prob with one.

I've had decent results with Emerson's. I have had some that didn't lock quite right, however I must say Emerson took very good care of the problem, but problems in general in ratio to the number of Emerson's I've owned is relatively few. I have a current-production Commander and the lockup is perfect. Last month alone I've had 2 CQC8's, a Karambit, a CQC-7, and 2 Super C7's and the lockup was perfect on them all, I'd buy whatever model you like and not worry about it.

My experience with Emerson has been all good. The CQ-7 I have was carried for years without a problem. The chisel grind took a little work to develop the sharpening method, but after that I was a happy camper. I still carry it occasionally.

I don't think you will be dissappointed with Emerson. Go to a knife store that carries a good selection of Emerson knives and handle a few.

I own four, Commander, Sark, Reliant, and Raven. All are great knives. Get one and you'll see. The Thick blades and chisel grind does take some getting use too. Just as an aside, I am in West Fla. also...

Despite my previous flippant reply, I actually do own two factory Emersons, both CQC-7's. They were my first *good knives*. Lock up is tight on both; fit and finish on one is superb, on the other one it's abysmal - the spine of the blade is so rough it looks like it was 'broken' off a larger piece and never finished. When I called them, they offered to fix it immediately but I didn't bother and just turned that knife into a HD user.

I own 3 and all are perfect. The vintage on them is from 2000 to '04. They're some of my favorite knives.

I think their lock QC has steadily improved - I just received my CQC8 and the lock up is perfect. (The fit and finish needed some work though...)

emersons are great knives. My first was a cqc-7b.It was my edc for three yrs.It was used 8-12 hrs a day 6 days a week cutting anything in the factory I work in.I must have opened it literally thousands of times. The lock finally loosened and emerson replaced and resharpened no problem.I am on my second emerson a max 1 serial number 017 and after 2 yrs she is just breaking in.
