How well does H1 work under very thin, acute edges?

I've read it reaches the mid 60 RC's after some use and sharpening from being work hardened. How long would it be expected to hold an edge after having this happen compared to ZDP189, VG10 and AUS8?

How easily does it take a more polished edge compared to the steels I listed? Any reason it should be difficult to get it hair whittling sharp?

Any significantly good or bad performance noted in your H1 knives outside of corrosion resistance?

I have heard that H1 is easily scratched and shows for a while, and this has happened to my older spyderco pacific salt. It still hasn't rusted :D, so that is always a good thing. Mine have stayed sharp for a long time, of course I only use them at the beach or on salt water fishing trips, so that minimizes the use of them.

I have heard that they are comparable to AUS 8, and from what I have used, it seems about true. Excellent knives to have, mine have gotten a little grungy on the pivot while at the beach, but a simple rinse with water and it's as good as new.

I hope this helps, J.

My only experience with H1 is with Spyderco's Atlantic Salt SE and Tasman Salt SE folding pocketknives. They're fully serrated, so I only use them on materials where the added friction of serrations is a welcome addition (cutting roots, vines, and branches in the air and in the dirt).

The wear-resistance on the Atlantic Salt SE is lower than on my AUS-8A Cold Steel Vaquero Grande, but its edge also covers less surface area (sub 4" straight blade versus 6" recurved blade). So for whatever it's worth, after performing similar tasks (sawing roots out of my lawn from shrubs and staghorn sumac), I haven't had to regrind the serrations in the Vaquero mocha latte, but did with the Atlantic. Doing so was easy with the Sharpmaker's diamond hones, though.

I really enjoy using my Atantic Salt SE, but I can't point to anything but the design for why I do.

IME H1 has the same edge holding capabilities of AUS-8,which isn't too shabby for a rust proof knife.I'd guess it's more like 55-57rc.
