Tell me about Lum Chinese Folders

I started looking at these folders because I have a Dejavoo made by that other company that you guys probably don't like mentioned here.:o I love that knife so I started looking at other Lum designed blades and came across the Chinese folder. It looks like a knife that I would really enjoy which brings me here.

I have been looking around and have found this knife in a few different versions. Not sure I have seen them all though. This is where you spyder guys come in. Help me figure out which one I want to pick up. Or at least tell me how many versions are out there.

I am not interested in limited runs with engraving or numbers on the blades. It will be a user so no since paying extra for what someone would want for their safe. Not interested in black blades either really. I prefer stainless plain edge blades.

I have seen the glass carbon ones, a titanium, a green and I think gray handle one. As far as I can tell they all had VG10 blades so I assume the only difference would be handle material and they should all feel and function the same correct? Are there any others out there that I should seek out?

If you have any opinions one the fit, finish, feel, or anything on these knives feel free. This will be my first Spyderco so I hope it is a good representation. I was really bummed that I came across the Green Para 2s to late to get on the list.:( From what I read that would have been a great first Spyderco.

Thanks:)

There was one run with black scales and ZDP-189 blade steel a couple of years back. Personally, I prefer the Large Lum Chinese (C143GP) as it fits my large hands much better and feels much more substantial in use. The G-10 scales give much better purchase than the smooth anodized aluminum scales of the smaller version. It is a serious working knife, where the original is more a gentleman's folder.

Thanks, haven't come across the black/ZDP yet. Sounds cool. The large looks a little bigger than what I was looking for. I just want it for EDC which doesn't require much heavy work. Also I have smaller hands so the regular may be a better fit for me. I'll have to look for the ZDP version and do a price comparison. Thanks for the info.

The ZDP is the one as far as a user goes. Gettin hard to find though. They are all good looking knives.

convexed and stonewashed. it's an excellent slicer, i use it to cut garlic into translucent slices.

The place that sold the blue para 2s still shows the ZDP version in stock, though their prices do tend to be somewhat inflated.

i edc an original green version. love the knife. have a few. still need a couple though. anyone got the blue? ;)

I really like mine. Carried on & off for a couple of years.
IIRC the only ones that are missing is a blue and an original serr. green.

I like mine, got a bunch of the ZDP ones when they came out. The grip is kinda awful when wet in my size 8 hands, and is essentially limited to "food-prep" grips, no white-knuckling on this blade. The large one has been on my list for a while now, but keeps getting bumped by the likes of the Air, and the flipper.
A bit more of the aesthetic than the practical than the typical Spyderco folder, and IMO one of the prettiest they've made. I had a Dejavoo too, but disliked the very weak detent and super-slippery, thick G-10 handles.
P.S. the anodized aluminum tends to chip off over time rather than scratch and tends to not be very even, just FYI.

Hey thanks guys. Lots of good information and opinion. Definitely food for thought. Sounds like it is a great knife to handle but not so much for hard work. Which is fine because it would fit my EDC role there. I always carry two anyway. The Dejavoo is pretty much the same as far as all that goes. Feels great in the hand but I have also found it to be rather slick in some situations.

Nice collection Wizzard.

Thanks again everyone.
