Tell me about the Alpha Dorado?

This is one buck knife that I have overlooked. I just recently picked one up at a knife shop on vacation with the S30v.
I really liked the way the standard black birch one looked, but my wife was with me and actually told me I shouldn't be so cheap and should pay extra for the upgraded one. ( I should have known she was buttering me up before she did her shopping.)
It's different than what I'm used too and I haven't really carried it any yet, only on a river float trip. Fits in the pocket good and the sheath is pretty low profiled. I'm not really a tactical kind of guy but is this considered a tactical knife or a hunting knife or a cross between the two?
I know about clip blades and drop points and know what a tanto is but I'm not familiar with the Alpha's blade but it looks like it would be a great skinner come deer season and this is the only knife I have ever owned with the s30v.

Hi jec88,

The Dorado is a great mid-sized knife and it's built like a tank, your going to love that knife. Now, the S30V blade is a great steel and is my personal favorite of all the current offerings. This knife has been issued in a few SO/LE offerings and some are real lookers.

I'm sure I wouldnt consider it a tactical knife, not sure I'd be heavy on calling it a hunting knife either, though I'm sure it would suffice. More of a Country Gentlemans knife I guess. Love mine with Ti coated CPM154 blade.

The sheath rubs a little if my shirts not tucked in. No biggie, need to buff the stitching I think

There is such a wonderful variety of steels the AD comes in, that there is something for everyone. jb's collection is breath-taking and ima's CPM154 blade is as good as it gets. That said, my latest AD came in S30V, which is no slouch at all. I think that ima's 'Country Gentleman' catagory is about perfect.

The 'Country Gentleman's knife' is close. A suburban knife could fit. It's not a skinner as the belly is mostly removed. Although I think I could make it work. Certainly not a clip point. I'd call it a spear point. It is a very strong, liner lock folder. It fits a small hand. My wife really likes her's. I purchased her one in 2004 it has the Idaho stamp and ATS-34 steel. The wood scales on it look like the one in A.P.F.'s avatar. I wouldn't consider it a tactical or a hunting knife but a cross over works. DM

I carry one in my pocket frequently.
I consider it to be great for cutting things ;)
A general purpose pocketknife that looks and works great :)

Here is a picture of my plain Alpha Dorado with Idaho stamp hanging out with others with the Idaho stamp.

Is that doubled edged?

No, just the way the light caught it.

Heres a pic of just blade along with a matching 110
