Hey guys, I've bought a SHSH before, but never a BBSHSH. Can you guys tell me about the knife in general? Things like, how rare it is, how many were made, when, and in what configs. Did Jerry make 'em?

Also, this one seems fatter than usual. Is that the case, and if so, how many were made like this?

Pics and specs on the one I bought are below. Any random information on this one, or on BBSHSH's in general, is most welcome. Thanks!

The BBSHSH "Birds Beak Steel Heart" weighs in at 1lb, 3.9oz - Smooth Bolts - Original Eagle Sheath - OAL- 13 1/8" - Blade- 7 3/4" - .302 Thick Fatty - INFI ?

They are fat. They are A-2. They feel STUPENDOUS in the hand. If you like the feel of an ASH-1, the BBSHSH handle is strangely an improvement on that - only b/c it was hand-shaped so well.

It doesn't feel or move as thick as it is. I've found it to be very light in the hand.

If forced at gunpoint, I'd still take a SHSHII, but the BBSHSH is a keeper for sure.

BBSHSH! Congratulations! That is a grail Busse no doubt. I got mine quite a few years ago, the wife thought I was nuts for trading all those knives for one. ;) The trade value was 650.00.

Looks like yours is a later version, flatter at the spine, the early ones had a curved spine nicknamed "humpback" Yea its a little fat, but the A2 Busse's varied a lot. I've seen from 1/4" to 5/16ths in the various models.

There were also a lot of coating variations in that time, from textured to smooth. Straight plunge lines to a slight curve.

Production numbers are a mystery, only the shadow knows.

Also keep in mind, the longer, A2 BBSHSH produced after the SH1 was actually known as the original SHII. I think the only reason the BB designation came along was to differentiate them from the later round pommel models which were aka SHII.

In reality, the BBSHSH actually could be called the BBSHII...while the later ones were just called SHII. I'm just as guilty of randomizing the acronyms, but these is the facts...and of course there are some roundies that are A2 AND Infi...but I'll just leave the hair splitting on those to someone else:D

Congrats on a great piece Bali! Now when are we going to see the field use pics?

thanks for sharing that, it's always interesting to learn more about the lineage and history of Jerry's knives. you guys/gals who've been around a while are just full of bits of trivia such that this, and I appreciate it when it's shared with the community.
