Ok on another thread I asked what spyderco to buy and wound up getting an Endura4 zdp-189 pe.
Now I am looking at the "captain" folder as a camping folder, who has used one and can you tell me the pros and cons of it

Given the choice between it and the Mini-Manix (original or #2) I would pick the Captain. IMO handle ergonomics are better, the finger choil is built into the grip, and the thumb ramp is decently long. My large-ish hands just barely fit on the handle, medium hands should find it just right.
the knife opens very smoothly, about as good as the Superhawk or BG-42 Military.
The wide tip slices extremely well, it feels like it was made for cutting food on a tabletop.

Downsides? Some people think it looks ugly. My clip broke when adjusting it (snaps much easier than most clips), and it's a liner lock, though with your finger in the choil all the time that's not so much of a concern.

The Captain is being discontinued, so if you want it grab it! (at a great price). I haven't owned one either but it's an appealing design to me. From what I've heard it combines a great slicing ability with that rounded tip for push cuts/scraping. I haven't picked one up because the blade length is only around 3", which seems really short for a knife like that-but I haven't handled it so I can't really comment on its actual usability/ergos.

I grew up using slipjoints so I tend to treat a folder as if it did not have a lock on it.

The Captain has been an occasional EDC for about a year now. It's a good knife. Build quality is typical top-notch Spyderco. I like the size of it. Makes it easier to carry and legal to carry concealed here in CO. I like the recurved section for cutting rope or going through cardboard boxes. The point where the recurved portion meets the bulb-like tip is adequate for scoring tasks. I haven't found much use for the bulb-like tip, though. Haven't tried any push cuts. Most of my cutting chores are better handled by a sharp tip.

Looking at a native 3 as well.
Will try to get to the store friday to handle both and make a desicion
