Seriously looking at this knife to be my full time, everywhere folder. Need to know if its just plastic or does it have a good steel frame over the zytel. Blade tough? Lock? Anyone have pics of their heat?

My son has one, but he's allowed me to use it extensively. Really great knife. Can be converted from assist to manual and back to assist in about a minute. DR knows how to design a knife -- the ergos are superior. The lock is also unique. It is a "foldover" design. It ensures more positive coverage of the tang by the lock bar. Very clever. Clip can be switched to the other side -- tool is included.

I have a Dominator, which I like, but the Heat is even nicer in some ways. I may yet buy one. I do not hesitate to recommend this knife -- great value for about $50.

Angelus I have a heat! I love the thing. Currently it is an EDC for work I keep it with my bailout bag. The knife is scary fast to deploy. The fit and finish is first rate for the asking price. The fold over lock is solid as well. The only drawback is the bulk of the knife. Compared to my dominator the knife is thicker overall. For the price I don't think you can go wrong. Now I am being sorely tempted by the sizzle. I cant post pictures at the moment, my computer is all messed up. Hope this helps.

Worth every single penny IMHO. Mine came razor sharp, centered blade, fast as lightning, great ergos, no flaws I could find. One tough and well executed knife, for around $50 it's a GREAT deal !!! I wouldn't hesitate to say... GET ONE ASAP !! ;)

"cognitivefun - how do you convert it away from assisted opening?"

u have to open the plastic handle of the nonliner locking side. remove the torx screws with the prvided wrench. u will need to get the appropriately sized torx wrench for the pivot screw too. once the screws r removed, lift of the plastic handle. the stainless steel liner may also come off, but if it doesn't remove it and place it with the plastic handle. u will now see the "leaf" spring attached to 2 posts. the spring should simply lift off the 2 posts wihtout much force. replace the stainless liner and plastic handle and rescrew the handle in place. make sure the pivot screw goes through the washers easily as there is a very ery very think synthetic washer between the bronze phosher washer and the blade. it is a very easy to make the HEAT non-assisted. i personally don't think one needs to do this, but if there r legal issues, the knife is worth making non-assisted as it is a very good design for the money.

hope this helps

Guys, I know that they are many threads (and reviews) about the Heat, but if you are still on the fence about this knife, then do yourself a favor and save $55 (average price on the web after shipping) and get one. While I do own Microtechs, I've been carrying and using this one as if I lose it, abuse it, am parted with it some how I won't have a heartattack. This thing is super shaving sharp, no blade play, and fast. It's also lefty convertable for us sothpaws. I've never owned a Camillus before, but it this is what they are putting out now I'm gonna look closer at this company.

Thanks Darryl & Camillus !
