I just bought a Kershaw Spec Bump for the grand price of $60.90 shipped. I wasn't in the market for a new knife, but this deal was too good to pass up. S30V blade, textured G-10 handle, I didn't see how I could go wrong. If I don't like it, I figure I can always unload it in the For Sale section.

This is my first Kershaw. I've bought a few in the past, but they were always for others, never for myself. What should I expect?

Does Kershaw know how to sharpen a knife, or will I have to do it myself? How is their customer service? How durable is the Speed-Safe feature? And finally, is the Spec Bump discontinued? I don't understand how a knife with a MSRP of $200 is selling for $52.95.

Thanks for the help.

It's a discontinued knife. Dealer is unloading his old stock to make room for new models.

Why do people avoid using the word "eBay"?
Everyone always calls it "fleebay" and other assorted related terms reffering to eBay?

Sorry not to take a away from the post. The Spec Bump looks awesome from what I have seen and heard.

Although I don't have a Spec Bump I do have several Kershaws. All came very sharp out of box, and i've never had a torsion bar fail on me in 10 years of owning various speed safe equipped models. I have a Chive I bought in 2000 that i've probably opened a few thousand times and it still works as new. If the torsion bar fails the knife is still operational and you will have it repaired under warranty. Good score.

I have few dozens Speed Safe Kershaws and torsion bar did break once on TiZDP Mini Cyclone. One email to Kershaw CS solved the problem. They sent me the part, as I asked and refused to accept any money for shipping, yes I did offer.
Very good customer service if you ask me.

You got a really good deal on a very nice knife. I wouldn't be too concerned about the torsion bar breaking. Kershaw tests them for 10,000 cycles. If it should break, you can ask for parts (as mentioned) or send it in. They won't charge you anything to fix it, or to ship it back to you. As for sharpening, you should have a Sharpmaker if you want to do it yourself. If not, again send it in. They will put a factory fresh edge on it for free, and no charge for return shipping.

The Bump series is great. I love the stud lock. Strong and dependable. You should expect long service out of this one.

Don't own a Spec Bump, but do own a few Kershaws.

1. Their knives come very sharp from the factory,

2. Customer service is unarguably the best in the industry,

3. The speedsafe mechanism is very durable, although there have been some folks that have had problems it seems to be rare.

4. Kershaw will send you the parts (free of charge) to repair it yourself or you can return it for a factory repair.

Don't know if the Spec Bump is discontinued, but the one you're looking at is the just released stonewashed version with the G-10 handles. That looks like an incredible bargain at $52.95.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm confident it's not a fake as I bought it from a vendor that is well respected on these forums.

I picked up a Spec Bump for $65 shipped about a year or so ago on Ebay. The seller didn't post a picture, just a discription, so I took a chance that turned out great. It's one of my favorite knives, the blade is very versatile, and as long as you don't let it get real dull sharpening it is no biggie.

Kershaw has just released a limited run of about 750 with a stone washed blade and I believe will mark the end of the Spec Bumps.

I own/carry 4 spec bumps. Very pronounced recurve. A little practice and you can keep it very sharp. IMO it's a slicer/poker not at all a prying knife.
I LOVE THE WAY IT FEELS IN HAND! The stud lock is awesome. I was afraid of it's strength at first but not anymore. Very ingenious design. For the price you're getting it at ,STEAL!
If you're afraid of hurting it,see Kershawguy for a great deal on blems so that you can really test the knife.

I've never owned a Spec bump, but I have many Kershaws and love them all. I had to contact their customer service once for a broken spring on a Cyclone... I sent the knife in, then sent me a brand new one although the broken one was quite old. I contacted them recently with a concern and got a new knife as a replacement and didn't even surrender the old one. As far as I am concerned, you cannot get any better than that. Thomas W on the forums represents Kershaw and is a hell of a nice guy. Great company.

it is a good strong solid knife... i was carrying mine a couple years ago and due 2 an emergency had to pry open my basement door and the only tool on hand was my spec bump. it held up under the abuse and got the door open and only suffered a little bent area about half inch down from the tip. i bent it right back to straight later on and wasnt a problem. that told me the heat treat was done quite well since it took a bend and didnt snap off. the lock didnt loosen at all either from this prying. this was the only time ive used a knife as a pry bar but i truly had no other choice and it performed great...

Can you provide a link where this can be purchased for that price?

A stone-washed version.

And for $53!!! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I ordered one myself. It's a special run with the stonewashed blade. The regular S30V Spec Bumps only came with a coated blade to the best of my knowledge.
