Tell me about the KUKRI by Becker

The 21 is the best chopper of the currently produced models because it’s got the most length and weight, the handle is a little thinner than I like for a chopper, The 20 and 29 are more comfortable and chop better IMO, the 9 is more useful for tasks that involve cutting.

I’ve owned 2, I currently own 0. I prefer a big knife over a machete for camping purposes, so I have the 20.

I'm hopeful somebody will talk me out of it.

I can get one on amazon for $130, free shipping. And I think on this one I may go ahead and remove the black coating for a cool shiny look.

It would blind ZOMBIES

The 20 & 29 chop better than the 21???
Thanks, I'm interested in that comparison.

hard to explain, on paper you’d think it’d be the 21 that chops best. I’ve messed around with a couple 21s at the BeckerWest gatherings and they’re decent to chop with. The khukri shape feels strange to me when chopping, the sweet spot seems closer to the handle than I’d like.

I’ve carried and used the 20 ever since it was produced, it’s comfortable and heavy and the sweet spot is relatively close to the tip.

I Really, Really, Really wish they made More of them!

Not wanting to start an argument. My experience with the 21 and 20 that I own has been different. The 21 I have out chops my 20 :D the 21 takes deeper bites with every hit I believe it’s because of the thinner blade . The sweet spot is when the edge makes contact :D as long as you don’t hit up close to the handle or the tip :p:p. The 20 is fine to but with a good swing it just doesn’t seem to bite as deep. I like both of em though and use em on small unwanted trees. The Parangatang is also a a heavy hitter . I do have thicker scales on my 21 and that made it so much more controllable. Both are very sharp. It’s got to be the blade thickness? The 9 also chops well but the weight and Length of the 21 and thickness just a little thicker than the 9 and less than the 20 makes the 21 the winner in the Becker’s I own.

Oh yea, if batoning is you thing it’s not mine but the 20 out shines any Becker I own in that department. I did have to check it out one day on a ridiculous log just to see. The relief spine is a marvel if the blade happens to get stuck it sure makes it easy to get it out :thumbsup:

The 20 passed this test with flying colors in my book :thumbsup:

The 4 is also a fun Blade if you can fine one. I’ve compared the 9 and the 4 a lot in little chop offs. They are both pretty close but in fast chopping the 9 wins by a small margin. I like using the 4 more because it’s just different and does everything well enough.

The BK-21 is my big chopper. It's badass.
The BK-4 chops like a pocketknife in comparison.

The 20 is great, but I also feel a bit thick/heavy for what it was. I had both the 20 and 21. Sent the 20 along, kept the 21.

Kinda sounds like people swing their large blades differently. And their chopping style dictates how well the blade style will chop for them. I say, buy the bk21. Run it up against similar sized blades with different styles. Youll learn what your swing prefers. You might find that your arm really favors a bolo or something else. And if thats the case, you can sell it here or use it for specific tasks. You dont know what works best for you til you try.

Ive never swung a bk21, but i do have a bk4 and its a beast (my first thought for the thread was the bk4). Id like to get a bk21 at some point though. Eventually...

A BK21? Don't get one.

Get two....one for each hand.

I have a third for Weddings and Funerals (and just in case I spontaneously generate another arm).

I hit with the deepest part of the belly just forward of the intended contact point and find that the shape of the blade facilitates a type of deeper "pulling" cut. Your results/mileage may vary - depending on your swing/hit. Try it, learn how to use it, and you will grow to love it.

Get yourself some decent Kydex and a Dangler. I have two 710/Diez Knives sheaths and I'll likely get another....as well as one for my BK4.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Do you guys like the upgrade micarta scales on the 21 vs the factory plastic? I saw the pretty TKC G10 but they look flatter and thinner...and the price is 1/2 the cost of a new 21!

I love the 21!!! It’s design is different from traditional kukri being a little thinner than most but it’s a beast!! It works well as a dedicated chopper and can even work as a short machete on light vegetation. One complaint I’ve heard from some users is that it can bury itself in wood pretty easy. If you use cutting techniques that allow chips to be removed, eliminates the binding. I prefer the factory Micarta scales on my 21s.

I do  but all are hands are different so we all will have a different preference. I prefer em a little thicker on the 21 because of the weight the 21 has :). Having a thicker handle allows me a very relaxed secure grip.
The three below are very close to to same thickness even though the 20 has thicker steel :D

All three just perfect in my hand :thumbsup:

This Kuk is making me drool!

I liked the Machax, just didn't love it. I have a soft spot for the KA-BAR Combat Kuk.
It replaced my BK-4.

But this, this Bk-21. This speaks to me.
