I just picked up a new in box, plain edge Spyderco C67 - "R". I've hardly ever seen anything of them on these forums and none ever for sale. What is the story on this knife? I like the skeleton look and it still feels like a strong knife in the hand. The lock up is rock solid.

Were not many made or did everybody just hold onto them?

Thanks.

Everybody's holding onto them. They're quite rare, as only one run of them was ever made(I believe). They tend to be highly sought after, because of their rarity, and disappear quickly whenever they're put up for sale. They also tend to bring a premium price as well.

apparently it was a re-issue of an earlier spyderco model that also had a cut-out blade as well, although this model didn't and some buyers were disappointed from what I heard. I never saw the original.

I like this particular knife, I have two of them, one as a collector/back-up and one as a user

I see them in shops all the time...they're much bigger than they look online, in my opinion. If it weren't a lockback, I probably would have bought one. I can check my shops for you if you'd like and get you an address...there's a friendly one not too far away that has done deals with at least two BF members (including long distance stuff). He's willing to mail it out.

The one I have looks like this except mine has a plain edge. It's a C67 - R

Are you maybe confusing this with the later Rs, I think they're called the R2 and look like this.....

you are right, I be confused, the R2 is what I have, but thanks for the picture of the earlier one, I had never seen it

I think I like the new R better. However, the old school R could be had with a ton of different cool cutout shapes in the blade, if I remember correctly.
