What is the thickness and weight. How is it compared to the CGASH-1. I just bought the ASH but I see a Sarsquatch that I like and would like your opinions on both. My primary use will be as a camp/hiking knife. Thanks, Jim

Congrats on the ASH1.

I like the CG ASH1, but I like the SARSquatch better as a camp / trail knife. It is the same thickness as the Skinny ASH (I think they're both 3/16", compared to .32" for the CG ASH), which I also happen to prefer over the CG ASH1. I don't know the weights right off, but the CG ASH is a much thicker knife in a shorter length than the SARSquatch, and it really feels like it.

The ASH handle design is one of the best for really locking your hand to the knife, but this also limits the ability to use many other grip positions.

The Squatch is more comfortable than the ASH or Skinny ASH for all-around use to me. I think it's got one of the best grip designs there is, and the weight of the blade is a good bit more forward compared to the ASHs, which makes it more of a natural chopper.

Ditto. I had 4. Sold em all. Wish I had saved one. I thought I'd prefer an FSH better. Nope. I liked the thin nature of this comfy-handled beast. :(

The SARsquatch will be difficult to beat by ANY blade in the Busse family for general camp/hiking duty. Haven't you seen the Jack Link's commercials???:D:D:D

The Sarsquatch is a trail queen. If you don't like carrying the weight of a FSH, yet want really good feel and chopping ability in a lighter package, the sarsquatch is an excellent choice, not to mention a cheaper price. I think I ended up getting the last one they had last Knob Creek. there was only one at the show, and I was able to snag it.

Been carrying my Squatch A LOT lately and it's starting to take the place of my beloved NMSFNO...

Sold my Skinny ASH because I enjoyed the squatch more.

You just cant beat the size/weight ratio.

It rocks.

I do not have an ASH to compare it to but I have a SARsquatch and I really like it. The balance is great, plus its a cool lookin blade. Mine is the competition finish with a convex edge and its nice :D

+1

The SARsquatch is my favorite camp knife of the 10 different Busse blades I own so far. I have the ASH-1 and SkinnyASH, and prefer the SkinnyASH as my next favorite camp knife after the 'squatch. A satin version SARsquatch would be a wonderful thing....

I like the ASH-1... I consider it to have the most "unbreakable" feeling of any one thing I own! I call it my "day-after-the-end-of-the-world knife." But it's too heavy and thick for me to seriously consider as a GP camp knife. The SkinnyASH is a much better camp knife, but the handle is sort of limiting and the blade balance isn't quite right for chopping. The SARsquatch has the nice combination of reasonable weight, a very comfortable and practical grip, and a surprising chopping ability. A winner!

Stay sharp,

The Sarsquatch is really high on my list of wants as far as Busse blades go, just don't have to funds right now. I will eventually get myself one, looks like an awesome blade

Sarsquatch over the CG ASHI by a mile as a camp knife !!!!

I ended up with about 5 of them because they are just about perfect. I always intended to send one to Ban to get his wicked satin job and it would be camping alongside my "banned" Buffalo Soldier". The Sarsquatch is just about perfect. Great geometry and plenty tough for any tasks even bordering on the completely unreasonable. Light, handy, great edge geometry (did I already mention that), doesn't suffer from the stupid thick edges some of these blades have. These allowed me to get rid of both of my ASH1's. Way too thick and they are outperformed in the "all arounder" category by the SarS so they had to go. Love mine. Have one in the trunk of my car as we speak.

As has been stated it's a great all around camp knife.

Had 6 at one point 3 CF's 2 black/blk linens and a tan one.

Hard times, I'm down to 1 CF, it lives in my saddle bag. Love it !

I have owned and used both the
Ash1 CG and the Sarsquatch.

For general use, I would pick the SarQ for general camping/use.

The blade is thinner, taller, and more versatile for camp chores.

The Ash1 I would pick for combat use, if I was ever in a position to need that.

I do miss the Ash1CG, but love the SarQ and it is not going anywhere.

The only thing about the SarQ that I think affects the looks is the humped swedge.

It would look better flat.

Some have sharpened it to a true clip, or made it flat.

The one I have was polished by the previous owner.

The thinner blade makes the SarQ much better at slicing tasks like trimming 40LBs of chicken breast.

The strong point of the Ash1CG is the way your hand is completely locked on the handle. Makes it feel more "tactical" for stabbing, but also limits your grip options and makes for some pinky bite when doing extended chopping. But .32 thick Infi is sure bomb proof!!!!

Oh also meant to add that I love the over-sized choil on the 'squatch - it seems much larger than all others on comparatively-sized Busses or any fixed blade in general - even bigger choil than on the CGFBM and BWMs  Has been AWESOME for using with gloves during this winter...
