Tell me about these Case Knives?

Very nice.

The first one, with the locking blade and guard, is a 'Cheetah' model; 1977 vintage, by the date stamp on it.

The 2nd one is a 1979 copperhead pattern (Case hasn't done this one in years, so it's especially nice).

The pattern numbers are stamped on the back side of the main blade on each (or should be). Think I see '6249' for the pattern number on the copperhead, in your pics. Very nice jigged bone on each of them.

I'll leave confirmation to the experts, but the first (Cheetah) looks to be from 1977 and the second (Copperhead) from 1979; both carbon steel in amazing condition. Very nice acquisitions.

Edit: Snaked by a minute!

I can't think of a better way to get my feet wet in traditionals than with those two. They've got a lifetime of service ready to give, and with a bit of care they'll be handed down for another to appreciate.

Thanks for the info :) Would u use them or because they are older and in good condition put them away?

For me, that's a tough call. Might sound odd, but if anything, you might just carry them for a while, and see if they're comfortable in-pocket and if you'll regularly see occasions where they would be useful. I've done this with a lot of older knives I've acquired, and it takes some time (sometimes) to figure out whether I'll really like to carry them or not. With old knives in more-or-less pristine condition, it's better to know that for sure, before you dive into using them, with the attendant re-sharpening and nicks/dings/scuffs to go with making it a user. With the Cheetah, Case still makes these. To see if you're comfortable carrying and using that pattern, it may be worth picking up one of the new models (in stainless) and see if you're comfortable carrying & using it. Some people don't like the swing guard on these knives, but may not realize it until they've handled it a while.

To each his own, But I would probably not use them. Buy an old beat up one first, take that for a spin. If it's a knife to your liking, you have a real nice one to upgrade to.

Those are great knives. I love these old Case knives. They beg to used but not misused. If they were mine they would have pocket time for sure.

Beautiful! I would use them for weekend carry knives, ya know, not hard work, just light stuff.

Unfortunate way to come into posession of such nice items, but it sounds like you've got a kind friend.
