Tell me about this knife and its company...

MOD makes fine knives. The company is very "tactical" oriented, and they also make a lot of automatics. The Scorpion is one I've had my eye on too. I like that it has both a plain edge and a serrated hawkbill edge. IIRC it has 154CM steel and a black tungsten coated (DLC). Certinaly not wimpy stuff. The main reason I haven't tried one to replace my SPOT/SWICK is that I really, really like the finger hole on the Spydercos. Very secure in the hand; impossible to drop or have wrenched out of your grip.

I have only owned one MOD, an ATFK.

The ball baring for the detent came mishapen, so it would open and close very rough. I could not fix it, and didn't want to send it in so I just removed the ball baring. It then opened and closed smoother than any knife I have ever held, but did not detent closed, which was not a problem since I carried it against the side of my pocket and it had no room to open.

That issue aside (oh, and the cheap ass screws stripped with ease), the knife was great. Nice stout blade, great lock (button lock- better than an Axis lock in every way, IMO) and fantastic ergos.

MOD makes quite good knives, quality is on par with higher end Benchmades and Spydercos. Although I really like some of their folders, I believe the Scorpion is downright dangerous! This supposed to be a knife strictly for SD purpose, but the serrated edge starts right after the thumbridge, so after a slash or stab it will cut your hand or finger to the bone! :thumbdn: Furthermore the tip looks reaally fragile, but that is not the biggest problem.

Yea I noticed that...looked like a nice knife.. I think I might pick it up at NGK when I head up there either this weekend or next week sometime... thanks for the help fellas..

didnt know microtech used to be with MOD.... interesting. Microtech makes great knives from what i hear but they dont seem to have a functional website....

i think MOD got absorbed by BHI if im not wrong
anyway, the MOD knives can be found on the BHI website
i agree with the assessment of the scorpion
as much as i like MOD, i'd rather have an emerson la griffe

I only had one of their knives. an MOD. It apparently had some isues in the pivot and was very hard to open or close. I mean like impossible almost. I sent it back for full credit from the company even tho I got it from a retailer. They wanted it for purposes of QC to correct some issue they had in manufacture. Decent folks .
