Thank you for YOUR service too!:thumbup:
I was medevaced in 1972 (Viet Nam), spent 10 months in Oak Knoll Naval Hospital (Oakland, CA) and some time recovering from surgery at Treasure Island. I got a medical discharge (Honorable of course) with 10% disability in 1973. Since then my medical problems have gotten much worse & my rating was increased several times through the years. I was given a 100% service connected rating in 2004.
If you were not medically retired from the Corps, you should be able to get that as well as your service connected rating. They changed the law a few years ago so that you can draw both retirement & disability.
If you have any questions on your VA benefits, please shoot me an email. I worked for the State of Oregon as a Veterans Representative until I had to take a disability retirement in 2004. I am rather passionate about seeing that veterans get the benefits they have earned by virtue of their military service!
Your knife does indeed appear to be an LB8, as Hedger pointed out. They are fairly hard to come by and usually bring a pretty fair price. The LB8 was made from 1981 to 2000 & in 2000 it had a suggested retail of $62.95.
As far as the burr on the edge goes, I am not sure why that would be. I usually finish most all the knives I sharpen on a Power-Strop with white jewelers rouge, which removes that burr. The Power-Strop is a leather wheel about 6 in diameter by 1 wide that goes on a buffer. My buffer is 1 hp Jet, turning at 1725 RPMs. Since I make & customize knives, I have the equipment to sharpen them, so that is what I use.
You can get a 4 Power-Strop that you can chuck into a ¼ electric drill.

The V-shaped wheel that comes in the kit is super for sharpening serrated knives.
The Power-Strop is the best thing I have found to remove the stubborn burr and give your edge a nice smooth & polished finish. When I ran a cutlery store we used a hard felt wheel & jewelers rouge to de-burr the edge of the knives we sharpened. I find the Power-Strop to be far superior to the hard felt wheel, though I would the hard felt if I didnt have the Power-Strop.
