My wife bought me this United Cutlery M48.

Other than..........This high-impact resistant, tactical combat knife is designed to withstand extreme conditions. The patent pending design is exclusive to United Cutlery. This knife features a solid full tang 7 1/2" partial serrated, hook point blade constructed from solid black anodized stainless steel with a razor sharp edge. The impact resistant handle is heavy patented Kraton construction with thick gripping power. The item includes a reinforced heavy duty ABS sheath with nylon belt loop. This knife measures 12 5/8" overall in length...... Any more info?? Keep it? toss it?

It seems like a HUGE piece of steel. I am sure it's not good quality, but the blade shape is nice. This knife could loose the "gut hook"--not exactly sure why a knife this big needs a gut hook!!

Does anyone have any experience with the M48's?

United is NOT known for quality.
I kind of figured. I hope she didn't pay much for it..she won't tell me.

I do like how it "snaps" into the sheath. The description says RAZOR SHARP....um ...not even close. I will have to re profile it on my Lansky, but might need my metal file first!!! It has a 30 degree slot--the factory edge is more like 45 degrees!!!

These are copies of the Becker line - maybe not exact copies, but definitely close enough that the idea for each United model came from a Becker Knife & Tool model. Beckers are pretty affordable, with known materials & heat treatments & mfg. methods, so I just stick with those.

Here's a thread from 2009 in the Becker forum here, talking about the M48:
