Tell me about this watch...

Personally, I wouldn't even consider spending that much money (or any money, really) on a quartz watch. I know a lot of soldiers who have spent their money on those Luminox watches, and they seem to be tough and dependable, but so is my $50 G-shock, and it is just as ugly(no offense, if the styling of that watch really is your thing).

If you are willing to shell out $500 for a watch, I would really encourage you to look at some of the lower-end automatics that are available.

For a $100 cheaper you could get a limited production LÜM-TEC Chronograph.

I can't speak towards Luminox, but these are backed by a fantastic warranty, they offer lifetime battery replacement for free, and the fit and finish on them is top of the line. This is one that is comparable to the one you're looking into, but to me, the choice would be a LÜM-TEC.

G-Shocks, not bad if you're a fourteen year-old.

Here is a picture of the lume on mine, by the way, even in low light they glow extremely bright, and the life on the luminescence is higher than the decay of tritium. After the tritium burns out in fifteen years, these will still glow brighter than most.

What's wrong with quartz? I'm kind of looking for this style of blacked-out finish.

Tritium has a half life of 12.3 years, which means it will be half as bright in that time, not completely burnt out. I have two H3 watches, the older of which is dated Dec 1993 and it still glows more than bright enough.

As for the life of the luminescence on your watch that's hard to say. Luminova has only been used on watches since the late 90s (and superluminova came even later) so no one is really sure how long it will last.

Nothing is WRONG with quartz, but I consider automatic watches to be superior, personally. It is comforting to know that so long as they are taken care of, my grandchildren will be able to use the few automatic watches that I do own long after I am gone.

...Or you get deployed every other year and end up in situations where you don't get to shower for a week at a time, in which case you will be glad you wore your G-shock and not your Patek Philippe.

I guess theres haters and fan boys for just about everything:rolleyes:

OP, Look into seeing if you can find a used Marathon GSAR instead...while i personally dont own one, i hear nothing but great about them, and i am considering one myself.

it was a direct quote from oruguma referencing what he said about a fellow poster choosing to wear a Fossil watch, actually. I have no problem with people wearing G-shocks.

Hmmmm I am pretty sure my statement was in disagreement with a poster saying that Fossil watches are "classy". If Fossil watches are classy, so are Affliction and Ed Hardy shirts. G-shocks are pretty much unsurpassed in toughness and function per dollar. Yes, many 14 year old boys wear them. I wear them too when I need a tough watch that I am not going to care if I do break/scratch/lose.

i bought a 7 dollar black waterproof digital watch from walmart(kind of an iron man copy) and its 2 years old, has paint marks on it from hitting walls, has been fully dunked in water for minutes at a time and is still running. i carry an old wind up timex in my BOB. I own a gold watch given to me by my mother when i graduated college. i guess if i had to recommend a watch it would be the walmart 7 dollar tough as nails water proof watch. buy 2 and keep a spare in the glove box. you are not gonna get any compliments on it though.

I'm interested if anyone here has had any experience with this watch. I'd like more info before considering a purchase in this price range.

Thanks! and Merry Christmas!!

Luminox makes great watches.
I own a Traser Automatic and I love it. Traser is the parent company of Luminox,
The quality of both brands is very high. The Tritium dials are excellent, you will never be sorry you bought a tritium watch. In fact, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

The Nighthawk is a very unique watch. If you like it, buy it!
Screw the naysayers. They probably wish they had one.

Not really. Nobody who knows anything about watches will take you seriously if you are wearing a fossil watch. They are good for 14 year old boys, but not much else.

Fossil copies brands. This "Decker' that they have looks like a TAG Heuer Carrara. What is 'unclassy' about the look of that watch?

And you think someone will take you wearing a G-Shock more seriously over a Fossil?

After the tritium burns out in fifteen years, these will still glow brighter than most.

After charging it of course ;) Remember that tritium glows all the time and never needs charging.

And like BlackHills said, Tritium has a half life of about 12.3 years. So after that time it will be at 50%, and in another 12.3 years it will be at 25%, which is still brighter than luminova that has gone uncharged for a couple of hours.

Also, most companies that use tritium in their watches can replace the tritium vials if you send the watch in for service.

Somber, I am finished derailing the OP's thread, I apologize for doing it thus far. If you need me to explain to you the difference between a Fossil and a TAG Heuer, feel free to PM me.

nothing wrong with Quarts, accurate, dependable but run far far away from luminox. QC is bad and Customer Service is worse.

Looks like a poor man's Panerai! I might have to get one as a beater watch!

Well I've been searching a lot and I'm pretty much looking for something along the lines of what I posted or what somber posted. So if you guys have another watch suggestion if you could just give me your pros/cons of it. I've been hard pressed to find good reviews anywhere online,.
