Tell me about TSEK

The TSEK AXIS (805) is my current favorite "utility" knife - meaning one I use most both for an EDC and on duty.

My opinions:

It has the same handle as the AFCK, secure and sturdy, with a more general purpose blade (and lacking a blade coating to damage). The blade seems to be very sturdy, maintaining significant thickness to the tip without being a pry-bar.

Mine has tight lockup, and almost no perceptable play in any direction (bronze washers). There is little handle flex (it is a folder after all), with substantial steel liners, and a long backspacer.

The clip can be placed for tip up or down, right or left hand carry. In tip down mode, it carries fairly deep, which I prefer. The only drawback in this config is that the thumbstuds can easily catch on the pocket opening. I have learned to make a slight twist when drawing to prevent catching. The AFCK's hole might be an improvement.

Overall, I find it hard to beat, given it's reasonable price. For a knife that gets used for all sorts of things, it holds up well, and will not kill the wallet if replacement is necessary.

There are variants. The first one I examined had the nylon blade washers, allowing a bit more play. The liners and backspacer also seemed less rigid. Given it was not drilled for 4-way clip placement, I believe it was an older model.

I went through several other folders before settling on the TSEK as a daily user. YMMV.

I've carried my mini TSEK for a few days. Good little knife, even if it is a liner lock. Get one.

I know AFCK stands for advanced folding combat knife,
but what does tsek mean?

Apparently "Tactical Safety Equipment Knife". Not sure what makes this design uniquely "that".

My first quality folder was an AFCK. The handle shape is awesome for safety and retention. If I had to choose between the TSEK and the AFCK, I'd go with the TSEK. That blade shape looks more useful (to me) than the AFCK shape. But either way, you have a great blade. Go with the TSEK though, it is cheaper and still made of decent materials!

I've got an 805 AXIS as well. I really like it, but I've found it is too large of a blade for office carry (nearly 4"). AXIS is awesome with a big blade, handle ergonomics are good, Benchmade clip works very well, thumbs studs are easy to access (in tip up carry), and 440C holds an edge very well. It's also a remarkably light and slim knife for the length, but still feels very sturdy (gotta love the AXIS lock!). When I purchased mine, it was a choice between the AFCK and the TSEK, decided on the TSEK. Mine has bronze washers, and still gets carried more than alot of my other knives. Good knife for a reasonable price.

Regards,

Shaun.

I agree, I have the 806D2 and the TSEK AXIS and even though the afck has better steel I like the looks and shape of the tsek better, espically in the plain edge verson, the blade looks longer than it is!

The fact that the blade is 440C doesent bother me at all, I am impressed with the edge holding and it seems to be easier to sharpen and it gets sharper than my many ats-34 and 154cm blades.

I also had a mini tsek and liked it very much also.

Actually this is one of the things that always makes me chuckle about my TSEK. If I were to put my AFCK into a bad guy I'd probably go to jail, cause for heaven's sake it's an advanced folding COMBAT knife. On the other hand I can stick my tactical SAFETY equipment knife into him and be just fine. ;) (never mind they're almost identical  ). All kidding aside you never know what a jury could think.

You know the old saying "What's in a name"? Maybe a lot in this case!
