Hi everyone, I have a 586 on the way, and I want to hear your thoughts on it. Ready, go!

De-assisted 586 is my the favorite & most used knife. I like it even better than 940/943 or Ritter. I thought it is one of the best design & value (sans weight) in BM lineup. Can't believe that it is getting DC'd.

How hard is it to de-assist?

Hey JD!! Here's mine with a bad ass set of S Ketchen scales next to my 581.
The 586 is my favorite smaller BM! It fits my hand perfectly! I really like the assist. Excellent action and this bad boy locks up TIGHT!!
I'm sure you are going to love it! Didn't know they discoed this one. Shame because it is a great knife with an amazing blade shape and steel!

I love it! How does the slider thing on the back work?

It's a toss up between my 484 nakamura and my mini barrage. The mini is de-assisted, and the smoother of the 2 knives. Once a week I pick up the 484 and can't remember why I wasn't carrying the barrage!

The 'slider thing' is a safety and 'clicks' into place locking the Axis lock.
Works very well, but can't remember if I ever used it.

In both open and closed positions? Does it cause a hot-spot?

Yup, both open and closed and no hot spot at all. It only sticks out a tiny bit and it has spring tension on it so if you hold the knife and do put pressure on it, it will just depress slightly.
Such a cool knife!!

Thank you, now I'm really getting impatient!

Mine causes no hotspot and I never use mine. It was my first BM (I have a pre-Bolster model). Absolutely love it, including the assist.

Well, it came in the mail today and so far I really like it. I liked the assist but took it out to make it more sheeple friendly. My God, hopefully I never want to reassist it! Anyways now is seems to solve all of my shortcomings with the mini grip.
