Tell me about your SOG Flash I

I grabbed a SOG Flash I today and just have a question about it for you Flash I owners please. When the knife is closed, the lock button (the big one, not the little one) moves fore and aft very freely when the knife is closed. It just jiggles back and forth willy nilly.

Does your Flash I do this? When I first got the knife, I thought there had to be something wrong with it. But now I'm sorta getting use to it. It is a cheap knife after all. Its no Spydie or Benchmade, thats for sure.

Otherwise, I really like the assisted opening, the teeny size and the 1.3 oz. weight. And deep pocket clip. The knife feels more like something a vendor would give away at a trade show than a quality piece of knife, but so far so good, and it is growing on me.

Ok, thanks. I'm not dissing SOG - too much. The Twitch II feels much more solidly constructed, and I dig their multitools.

I can get used to the jiggly lock button on the Flash I.

Twitch II.

The flash 1 rattles, it has blade play, the clip bends veery easily, alltough, i like it as a cheap edc, it gets scary sharp, slices well and i like the a/o.

I took the knife apart the other day, and it looks like you can glue the lock button to the lockbar in a way so it wont rattle.

I put a pe in the alm. scales, and with the alm. to me it feels much higher quality, ended up packin mine as a 2nd quite a bit,. oh yea removed the lock.

I agree. The Flash 1 has many good qualities: light, small, great deep-pocket carry. But it has a few bad ones: it rattles, the lock is kinda goofy, the finger choil is wayyy to small.

For the price, it's a great blade. I just wish I could find something as small and light, with the deep-pocket carry/clip.

My Flash II does the same thing. I'm pretty sure that's the way it's supposed to behave. Yes, it's no Spydie, or Benchmade, but at the same time, it seems to find its way into my pocket pretty often.

Despite my initial misgivings, I must like this knife because I ordered a Flash II. So far I have not discovered anything in the EDC realm which this little blade will not handle.

I've always wondered about the lock on the Flash. Unfortunately, my first impression of it was not a good one. Looked at a Flash at a gun show, years ago. The dealer handed it to me, I opened the blade, and the whole thing immediately jammed up. Blade wouldn't close at all. The lock switch wouldn't move significantly in either direction. Neither myself, nor the dealer could figure out what went wrong in that knife. He simply tucked it away, blade still opened/locked, to be 'dealt with' later.

I'm assuming (hoping) that was a fluke. But, it still made me lose all interest in the Flash knives from SOG. Having said that, I do have all three sizes of the Twitch (I, II, and XL), and they do seem to be very solid, nicely made knives.
