My son is moving to Branford CT. in a couple of weeks. It is near New Haven. Moving in with his college roommate who just started a job in New Haven (my son is a computer consultant who works from home).

I don't know anything about the area except it seems to be a coastal type town. My wife wants to go down and see his place in February so I'd like to hear anything about local restaurants, hotels, etc.

Thanks.

Generally a working class suburb of N.H.-A nice part of the state as it is north of the "Gold Coast" {Greenwich,Darien,Stamford etc},which tends to be bedroom communities of NYC.Lots of nice places north of there on the coast.--Old Saybrook & up the Ct River,Lyme,Waterford,Mystic. Also an easy drive to the R.I. beaches.--KV

I live in CT also. Like kvaughn said, it's a 'burb of New Haven. Mostly middlle/working class. There are some more exclusive enclaves directly on the shore. For pizza, jot down these names: Modern Pizza, Sally's, & Pepe's. Rt 95 is the main highway artery along the shore. Coastal Rt 1 gets you closer to the fun stuff. For scenic locations, try Lighthouse Point park on the east side of NH Harbor, Sandy Point on the west side of the harbor. Take the road up to East Rock which puts you directly above the city, great views. Also, take the trip up to Hammonasset in Madison, or down to Milford Point in (duh) Milford. The Snowy Owls from the arctic are here causing a stir among the birders. In New Haven itself, check out Yale (obviously), the Skull Tomb, Yale Peabody Museum, and the New Haven Green. For a nice scenic ride, take Rt 154 up the Connecticut River from Old Saybrook to Higganum. Enjoy your visit!
