Tell me more about the LCC

I received a LCC DA CF SW PE Al the other day and aside from winning the "knife with the most initials" contest, it's a damn cool knife. Anyway, I have a few observations and questions~

Why is the blade so damn thick? I mean, it's thicker than my Sifu and every other folder I own. This interferes a bit when cutting something that the blade has to pass all the way through.

Will the CF scales and anodized Al bolsters get scratched from the keys in my pocket?

I can see why everyone likes this knife so much, and it's a great deal at that price, so why are so many popping up on the "For Sale" forums?

Is there anywhere I can get a black clip for this knife?

The handle is surprisingly secure for not having an index finger guard, I'd rate it at about 80%, meaning that it's 80% secure on a full-power stab or that it's secure on an 80% power stab, into wood. (I have a wood bookcase into the side of which I stab knives, and if I'm in an adventurous mood I snap the tips out sideways. I haven't snapped the LCC tip out (yet) but the 812, Camillus EDC, Sifu, 940, Carnivour Cub, & 710 held up just fine, i.e., no damage whatsoever.)

Since it is a DA, is it considered abuse if I snap it open?

This being my first MT, it's shaving sharp, QC/QA is near excellent, but I don't see how it's significantly better than a good specimen from BM or Spyderco, any thoughts?

MT's stonewash finish is absolutely gorgeous! Beats REKAT's & Camillus' hands down.

I'm planning on carrying this knife assuming that if an LEO does find it on me, he won't figure out that it's a DA, what do you think my chances are?

Oh, and if you're looking for a good, tough, hard-use folder, mine's not for sale but I recommend you pick one up.

-Because I like it thick :D
I noticed that a thick blade makes for a more controlable cut. It is a tiny bit harder to push the whole blade through something compared to say a BM 710, but it feels like you can control it a little more.

-Nope. The Al will scratch your keys and stuff and u'll get marks on them and probably think the anodized coating scratched off, but actually your keys or coins just sorta drew on it. It'll rub off easily. I have the titanium bolsters and they're satin finished now because I got tired of looking at all the scratches. My other microtechs with AL handles have key marks, but when I get the chance I'll clean them off with a scotch-brite pad.

-You see a lot because they sell like crazy, not because people are getting rid of them (lots of people have multiple LCC's). ;)

-Haven't found any myself. I think the tactical LCC's have black clips, if thats the case perhaps you can get one from Microtech.

-Not really, I've got a M/A LCC and have snapped the blade open a million times and have noticed no wear. I guess that's one of the benefits of a well built knife.

-The fit and finish may not be better than the best Benchmades and Spydercos, but does Benchmade or Spyderco make a knife that looks like the LCC with the same materials? nope
Have you ever taken apart an LCC? It's amazing how much machining goes into the parts. It's not nearly as simply built as a Benchmade.

I love my LCC. I'm gonna get an AL bolster D/A soon.

I have no idea why the blade is so darn thick. That was one of the first things I noticed. However, it's a very well designed thick edge and does most cutting jobs very easily. It is more difficult when pushing it through something, however, it's also very sturdy. There's always a tradeoff like that, isn't there? :)

The "QC/QA" of a microtech seems more consistent than Benchmade or Spyderco. Of those that I've seen a well finished MT is head and shoulders above BM or Spyderco. While a "normal" MT is on the same level as a good showing from the other two. Of course, on all but the LCC you're paying a good deal extra for that quality. For some reason they're giving the LCCs away. You won't see me complain about that!

I don't know about the black clip, but I'd be interested in getting one as well.

Dunno about snapping open a D/A.

Yes, the stonewash finish is really nice.

Another possible reason for the heavy sales of them on the forum is the weight and the thick edge. Some people don't like that. Also I bought mine through the forum(blademan 13, nice guy). He said he wouldn't have sold this one to me but he already had another M/A and a D/A. So the fact that many people have more than one could account for the sales here.

The LCC is the only knife I've ever considered buying multiples of. As my fundage levels out I'll be picking up at least one more.

Well, as an LCC DA owner, I can tell you that the carbon fiber is very tough. It is not a flat shiny polish, but a gently rounded kind of bead blast finish, and I have yet to notice a scratch on it. You'll notice wear and tear on the bolster and blade way before seeing anything on the CF handle. Even if there is a scratch, it is so hard to notice, since the finish is not smooth, like on some flat CF handled knives.

As far as anyone noticing it is an auto, I think your chances are almost zero. I've even showed some people that it is an auto and they can not make it fire to save their life, without you showing them EXACTLY how to do it. The only people who will know will be those who A: own one, B: have handled one extensively, or C: are members of this Forum.

I own the MT LCC DA CF B PE. I might get some custom work done on it, like anodizing the bolsters and adding pearl scales, but I'll retain the CF scales to put back on when really using the knife.

I'm sure you'll be enjoying this knife for years to come.
