Been reading a lot on here and trying to decide on my first real sharpening system, can't decide on a simple diamond stone, guided system, paper wheels. Then I saw this work sharp system and it really looks neat. But does it work well? I watched the video on there site, looking for other opinions?

I got the handheld work sharp today in the mail, it does make the blades razor sharp but it dont sharpen all the way to the plunge on my custom blades,i used it to sharpen a pocket knife it worked perfect,i have no use for it if your looking ill sell you mine if your looking for somethin to use on factory knives
thanks bill

Take off the guide and use it like the mini-belt sander that it is!

you might wanna note that its louder then a bench grinder. quite loud actually (at least it seems like that in the videos I have watched). the system is pretty cheap but the belts will get ya in the money department...

It's louder when running yes, but the paper wheels are louder when sharpening. The exception being when you use the coarse grit ceramic belts, as they remove more metal.

ok I retract my statement about it being louder then you may think now that I have watched a few more videos. the inital video I saw of the works sharpener sounded louder then a chainsaw (I keep thinking to myself, how do these guys not wear earmuffs and ear plugs) but in the new videos, they do seem much softer then a benchgrinder. I wonder how that occured as the voice in the video I saw (which was about 8 months ago) sounded normal. weird. In anycase, I was apparenlty totally wrong about the noise it makes (i doubt i could be more wrong then this).

BTW: nobody else has seemed to have called me on this so I always figured this to be true. Some one really should have called a huge bullshit me as I feel quite stupid now and have been for at least 8 months!!!

It doesn't seem nearly as loud as my HF 1x30. The WS is a bit higher pitched, I guess. It's quieter than all of my other power tools... drill, saw, etc.

Hey BA! Like Ben B. said, if you take the guide off, it'll sharpen right up to the plunge line.
