tell me this isn't normal

Tell me I'm not just anal about this and that it's not normal, at least not for a new knife out of the box.

So I got a ZT 0350 on Monday. When you close the blade, it hits the g-10 backspacer. If you open it, you can actually see two grooves where the blade cut into the g-10. Also, when closed, the tip of the blade sticks out from the back of the handle, just enough to make me think the knife didn't pass QC. I mean I can't cut myself with the tip sticking out, but it irks me nonetheless. The blade basically needed to sit 2 millimeters farther up from where the pivot was to not stick out. Finally, the knife isn't centered when closed. Not that big a deal, but when my bro's 60ish dollar Griptillian comes with a perfectly centered blade, I kinda want a knife costing almost twice as much to be the same.

Oh yea, the grind lines were slightly uneven when I looked at both sides and compared...that issue alone didn't irk me like the others, namely the groove cut into the g-10.

I tried to convince myself all these things were normal...then I got an RMA number.

It's also my first knife (one that my GF gifted to me), so I kinda was hoping for a little better fit and finish.

Anyone else ever come across a knife with similar issues?

I know someone who had to lemon law a $80K+ BMW 7 series. It can happen with any product.

Just take comfort that Kershaw has outstanding customer service and they will certainly resolve the problems to your satisfaction. That BMW required a lawsuit!

Ouch.

I don't doubt Kershaw's customer service. However, I contacted the vendor and they took care of me. Now I just have to wait to get it in again. Kudos to the vendor.

Hate waiting on something I really want my hands on. :D

+1 on Kershaw Customer service. They probably have some of the best service in the industry. Give them a call (503) 682-1966 and they'll fix it right away.

also when you first got the zt350, you loved it and said it was great. only the clip was too tight.

That's only because I tried to convince myself that the other issues were normal. The groove cut on the g10 for example has gotten deeper over the past couple days. I love the knife, just not the thing wrong with it. The clip was taken care of and is a non-issue.

Get in contact with Kershaw/ZT. That's not normal and they'll fix it.

Yea, didn't think so. As I looked over the construction, I'm pretty sure the thumbstud on the left side of the knife is supposed to stop the blade by butting up against the liner when closed, not the g-10.

I got in touch with the vendor first. Knifeworks is great in wanting to take care of their customers.

how many threads on the same sbject are you gonna start? this is the second in as many days.

Not to be a dick but I agree. It seems like I have read a dozen threads thru the forums about that ZT350. You have been a member for over 2 years and you just now got your first knife?

If there is a problem send the thing back as it will get fixed. We can't fix it for you. If everyone posted a half dozen threads about every knife they got this place would be a zoo.

Again, I'm not trying to put you down or anything but thats why vendors and manufacturers have customer service departments to take care of any problems that might arise with a product.

yo harkamus, sorry if i sounded cranky, no coffee.:D

i'd say trade her in for a new one. or get a credit for something else. don't settle for less.

 for roger at knifeworks. one of my favorite online retailers.

i hear kershaw has great customer service. they'll hook you up.

all my kershaws were pretty much good to go. sorry to hear of those problems in the zt350. good luck with your zt350 resolutions, let us know what happens.

Eh, no offense taken. I was a bit anal I guess, probably because the ZT 350 was one of the knives I was really looking forward to. As far as coffee...gave that up 6 years ago after switching colleges. Might have to indulge again soon; phD level courses will be something different.

Yea, knifeworks is really outstanding in the CS dept. They went ahead and sent me an advance replacement without making me wait until they receive mine back. The replacement should be here Friday since I'm only a few states away from knifeworks.

I think my next order from them will be a Manix 2 whenever they get some in stock. I didn't think I'd get the knife bug, but it's already bitten me. The ball lock will be nice to compare to my bro's Grippy.

Kershaw is great too. They said if the replacement has any issues, that I should send it to them and they'd take care of it. The CS lady (Cheryl) there said that the 350s shouldn't have the things wrong with them that I mentioned.

in the future if you have questiosn regarding the fit and finish of a knife the manufacturer is almost always willing to tell you if your knife is out of the bounds of what they would consider acceptible.

Noted, good sir. I guess that's why many people end up gravitating to custom knives. I have a few on my list of future purses myself, a Doucette and a Tighe.
