Played around with a notion of the SS Police riding somewhere on my belt unseen and easily reachable. Ended up with a horizontal sheath that rides on the back, reachable and Spydie-droppable with my right hand in a heartbeat.

What do you think? :)

Guys,
Vess does fantastic work!! I have 4 of his sheaths for the Gunting, two LH & TWO RH!!My Niece wants one of my LH, so will have to get another from Vess !He also makes leather for other Spydies. His sheaths give whatever you carry, a touch of CLASS!

Really, really, nice work (pics too !)! An idea as to its cost ?
Always wondered why the clip is left on . . . Do tell.

Sazabi
PS - Love the all stitching construction. Hate them rivets.

The clip is left on for the people who carry the knife sometimes in the sheath and sometimes in their pocket. Most Spydies won't handle it too well if a clip is removed and put back on too many times... :)

Personally I prefer to make the sheaths clipless, or at least with biggest flat areas possible. This allows to make carvings, and do tooling or stamps.

As for stitching, it was a long time coming. The first batch had some rivets, but they ended up scratching things, so now everything is hand-stitched. I actually like it better this way, even if rivets are faster... :)

Email me if you have something funky in mind, and I'll see what I can do. I've done some very fun things already for some fellow forumites, like extra-heavy duty sheaths, or cute little wonders toolworked everywhere...

I have the following Spydies, so I can make the sheaths fast without any sending of knives back and forth: Gunting, Police, Military, Chinook, Endura, Native, Harpy and even Shabaria! :D

My emails are:
vesscollectibles@rogers.com
vesscollectibles@hotmail.com

Current projects are a nice big sheath for a Military and a small scarred canted sheath for a Native. :)

Vess, could you post some pics of the Military sheaths? Current project also, if possible. ;)

Thanks. :D

As soon as they're in a presentable form I'll post some pics. I am also putting together a new website. My old Sympatico site is down, and the new Rogers site is not up yet... :)

Military sheath will be a regular shiny-black affair, but the one for the Native will be odd-looking. I used some heavily scarred leather for it, and the sheath has a weird look about it because of that unique scar pattern.

Weather is no good for photography today, but these will give you an idea what the rig for the Military looks like... I screwed up the spamp a bit, but otherwise it's okay.

Native sheath is still in the works, it'll be days before it's done... :)

But I still like the Police in that horizontal sheath best. It is totally invisible. Went all over town with some friends with the Police in the sheath on my belt, and nobody noticed anything. And they KNOW I have at least one knife at me at all times... :)

Thank you for introducing me to a new level in form-fitting !!! Also, I like the closeness of the stitching to the edges - not sure about the strength factor, but it sure looks great.

Guess I will have to email you soon.

I would like to get one of the sheaths for the Military.Shoot me a mail I may have something to trade for it.

Actually, stitching too close to the knife is a no-no in sheathmaking, as professional sheathmakers have told me. But for some knives it still seems to work okay, it all depends on the shape... :) But since these babies are first glued and then stiched, before I put the stitches in I test to see if the knife goes in and out okay, and only then finish the sheath. Better safe than sorry... :D

P.S. U812, email sent... :)

P.P.S. Working on putting together a website with a "portfolio" of everything I've made so far. Takes long, but it'll be up soon... :)

Vess,
that's a really beautiful work! It has some elegance and also looks very practical. Can't hardly wait to see your other designs on the webpage you mentioned!

Best wishes from Germany,

Guys,
Been putting Vess's G sheaths thru the ringer, wearing & drawing from every day,"STILL RETAINS,STILL TIGHT"!Vess's sheaths are fantastic!!

Very nice Vess!

And if Jim says they're holding up even after all the Gunting draws and drills then they must be pretty darn tough!

Good job!:)
