its a compound bow, camo color. i have this and the trigger, but nothing else. i was at the archery the other day but i shot the rentals. it seems like i will need the sights, a plastic piece to hold the arrow up, and arrows... also, the rentals had a little loop to hook the trigger onto, do i need to make a loop?

You'll have to go to the archery shop and have the bow fit up to you. Tying in a loop for your release trigger/is probably not something you can do by yourself. You have to have it positioned just right to get good arrow flight, too high or too low and it kicks the arrow off on an angle.

Chances are you will have to have a peep sight tied into the bowstring for you as well, and this definitely requires a second person as you need to hold the bow at full draw while figuring out where to place it. It needs to line up with your eye when the bow is drawn.

A cheap 3 pin fiberoptic sight to go with the peep sight should be fine for getting started and I've had good luck with a low priced 2 prong arrow rest as well. I'm far from an expert but I think that having the bow fit properly, and a little practice are much more important than all the high priced accessories.

First off have someone check and make sure the bow is set up correctly and that it fits you. Always good to have it checked out to know if there are any problems, such as split limbs, bent axles etc. Also good to make darn sure the string and cables are in good condition....
Ya definetely don't need the top of the line accesories just getting started.

There is a great website called Archery Talk.. It is owned by the Martin family (Martin bows).. Lots of great advice over there. They even have a great classified section. Sometimes you can make some smokin buys.

thanks, will check out archery talk and stop by the archery... once i recover from all these knives...

I really like the whisker biscuit arrow rest. Mine has a little cut out so you can just slide the arrow in from the side. They have drop away rests but they are more complicated and I like the biscuit just fine. My bow is definitely more accurate than I am and I can consistently hit a 5" diameter circle at 50 yards and its been years since I have shot a bow.

Must haves:

Sights - Very important!
quiver - that attaches to the sights
stabalizer - helps keep the bow balanced
metal release hook - i like these better than the string loops ones, they last longer & are more durable - must have if using a quick release
hand loop - goes around your hand to hold the bow while you shoot - makes it so that you don't have to wrap your fingers around the bow and hold it in a death grip - bow stays connected to your hand when you shoot so you don't have to grip the bow when you let the arrow fly

Nice to have:

limb savers - helps stop wear & tear on your bow limbs
bow string silencers - self explainatory i think? helps stop the string from vibrating after shooting
Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them .
Happy shooting!
