Hey guys I had a idea about a spyderco dyad. I love the size of the. C39 with the micarta handles. I would like to see one made with carbon fiber like the sprint military. The blade material I would like the s90v or higher. I wonder if sal saw this thread if he could make it possible

I'm with you 1000% on that idea Brother :) My ultimate favorite Dyad is the big C-44 model ( the full sized one). The C-39 with the Micarta handles has been one of my very sentimental favorites for years. There are not many smaller folders I find useful but the Dyad Junior is one exception.

There have been rumors over the past 2 to 3 years about a possible H-1 Salt Dyad that would be smaller than the C-44 but larger than the C-39. However nothing has come of those rumors although I have heard them often in the past 2 years.

I would welcome an H-1 Salt Series Dyad and I can't for the life of me figure why people who work around salt water conditions haven't just outright demanded one. There are so many cutting chores you can do so well with the Dyad model by having both the full Spyderedged blade and a full plain edged, clip point blade. The Dyad model was truly one of Spyderco's greatest concepts and I'm surprised that it didn't become one of their flagship models.

I'm with you all the way on this one.

Thank Smith and Wesson for killing the C44. While a Dyad in S90V would be awesome, don't hold your breath. It was a Japan model, and they don't like using American steel. Maybe ZDP-189. Otherwise, it would have to be made in Golden, which is already running at maximum capacity and unable to keep up with demand.

Jack,

How did S&W kill the C44? I don't know the back story.

They claimed they had the rights to the design for their "Cuttin' Horse", and they had a lot more money to spend on lawyers. The C44 went away after a single production run while the Cuttin' Horse lingered on.

Over at the Spyderco.com forum a while back I suggested the C-44 as a possible Sprint Run and Mr. Glesser chimed in said that they were at the time considering many models for Sprint Runs but he did leave me with the impression at the time that it would be considered. Since the S&W debacle you've spoke of they have since did that Mini Dyad with the jigged bone scales and it seems to me like there may not be the hurdles to clear that there once was. I hope I'm perceiving that correctly anyway because there are few older models from the "GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS" 1998 to 2003 that I would prefer over the C-44 big Dyad for a Sprint run. The C-54 original big Calypso is one of the few that make my envy meter go crazy as much as the C-44 does.

Brother let's just hope it ain't dead>> because it would be awesome to have a newly revamped, full sized C-44 Dyad Sprint Run. I'm one of the few along with yourself that actually used the big Dyad for what it was intended for. To me the big Dyad is a knife user's dream come true.
