Tell me why you love your XM-18?

I've recently been intrigued by the xm-18 3.5 inch flipper. I own a strider sng and CRK small plus other knives. How smooth is the flipper to open? How does it compare to a strider and what is it about the Hinderer that you like so much? I would appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

You owe it to yourself to find someone in your area who has one so you can check it out. Maybe make it to a knife show that Rick Hinderer Knives is attending(Jersey City in Jersey in the fall and spring, Atlanta in June, Vegas on Labor Day weekend, Calif. every other year). You could just buy one and sell it for what you paid if you aren't happy. The XM-18s are as smooth or smoother than the SnGs that I have owned. They also fit my hand better. RHK holds high tolerances in their production.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, where I live I can't get to any shows or see one in person. I do appreciate the feedback.

I just recently obtained my first, 3" flipper and am gettin a 3" non-flipper tomorrow. I like the knife alot better then the Striders that I have handled. The 3" is small but I picked them up for a steal on the second hand market.

I do agree and would recommend the purchase, you should not be dissapointed. I would recommend the 3.5" if you have never handled one. And if it is not for you, then post it up for sale as the 3.5" is the hardest to find in my opinion.

The 3" XM-18 is to me the ultimate pocket knife. I have owned the Strider PT and there is no comparison really. The PT was hard to open, had sharp edges and was not comfortable in my hand. The fit and finish was good but definitely not up to the Hinderer. I also carried the small sebenza for a while. It was a great knife but did not fly open like the XM does (lightening fast, effortless flick with the thumb, no wrist action at all, no need to load up on the thumb prior to release)

(see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qiRs_1cWCA for live action filmed just minutes ago)

Also, it did not inspire me with the feeling that I could use it for just about any task and I wasn't going to ruin it or void the warranty. The XM is such a solid and well made knife. The 3.5" is also incredibly smooth. The blade flips out with weight and force that you can feel. It inspires a confidence in hand that let's you know that you can't break it. And the steel - cut whatever you need to cut and it sharpens right up again. I love my stonewashed blade. Scratches just blend in... And in terms of looks? C'mon!!!!!:)

Own them all, EDC XM 3.5 Spanto flipper as primary.

Why Hinderer because it's awesome, tough, trustworth and reassuring when needed. I look for similar attributes in people, but their even more scarce than rare knives.

Maintain your knife like you do the rest of your gear and it will serve you well.

Flips like its greased with fresh, non-stick unicorn tears and cuts through the rainbows the magical beast rides upon with ease.

I liked my first one (3.5" flipper slicer) so much that a week later I went a bought a 3" non-flipper slicer for a smaller EDC.

My goal on the 3.5" is to get everything anodized blue that can be, with a textured blue ano titanium scale.

They are beautiful knives, and are a dream to hold.

EDIT: I like that scale maprik!

Thanks! DIY anodizing!

The XM-18 is simply a well built folder. If you appreciate the finer things in life a Hinderer XM-18 is a must have edge tool.

Loved this description--hilarious!

I have a brand new Strider SNG CC and really want an xm-18. Now I need to find one. Anyone know of any secret stock at dealers? They are tough to find. Thanks!

Built like a TANK.....Easy Carry---You can change up the looks.. add... take off.. Standoffs-Pocket Clips..Scales..Etc..
Just an all round TERRIFIC knife. In MY OWN Opinion..Not plugging the Hinderer TEAMS Blades..Although..I have had numeorus EDC knives. BUT BARR NONE..this is in my posket daily...
I own a few.. Partial to my XM 18 3" BUT love them all ..
When you handle one and or have the chance to own one..
YOU will know and experience what I am speaking of..as many will agree and or disagree..

Good Luck with the HUNT my friend..
Thats half the fun.......
