Before I need to don a flame retardant suit, I love Buck Knives, the company, their mission and their knives. I was a Buck fan before I ever became a full on Knife Knut. So please don't take this as a disrespectful question or troll/bait because it is a respectful/legitimate question.

Tell me why the 113 Ranger costs more than the 112 folder when both use the same 420HC blade steel. I understand that the cost delta is marginal and also that economy of scale may play into the equation ... but inquiring minds want to know.

BTW: Love me my 113 Ranger.

The other JB hit the nail on the head. You can ask the same question why does the 112 cost more than the 110 for all the same reasons. It's totally a line changeover/set up setup cost verses the units produced and sold. The vollumes speak vollumes!

I think you are right JB..I'm sure the 112 outsells the 113 by a 20 to 1 margin. Maybe double that or even more. And as a stocked item in a physical store I'm sure the 112 is more popular..

Just a guess, but it also could be the difference in the construction. With the 113 being a full tang knife, it uses a longer blade blank that's twice as long as the blade blank for a 112 folder, which might make it more expensive to make?

The one that gets me is how the "55" is the same price or more, depending on where you buy it, as the 110. Way less materials used to make the "55".

There again, the tooling for the 112 has been out much longer and they sell a lot more 112s than 55s.

And you have to understand Buck decides MSRP and wholesale prices taken in consideration factors we would not even think of..

Volume of sale
Who has a retail location near them that stocks the 113 ranger for average Joe non knife nut types to see and purchase?

More retail locations are likely to have the 112 than the 113, and the 119 special is cheaper than both because like the 110 it's available from any retail locations stocking decent knives.
