This is the first set of pics that I took of my attempts to bring out the temper line in a few Khurks. I will try to get both better pics and polish a bit to see if I can't show them better. I was a bit suprised on where the hardening was on the blades. The Ak Bowie is hard to see and has quite a bit of blade that appears to have been unhardened. Might redo it just to see as I hope that this is not the case. The 21" chit is somewhat hard to see even in person but it appears that the whole length of the blade has been harden all the way to th tip but never to far towards the spine. I hope that it come out better with a bit of polish. 12" Villager Ak that has a nice deep hardened zone with a thin amount even out to the tip. The 20" Ak is hardened more or less the whole length of the blade with just a little toward the cho and a little towrds the tip. These were done with straight FC.

Yes, the majority of the blade is left softer for impact absorbtion. The tips are left unhardened (typically) so that they will deform rathern than break if they hit a rock or something hard. Note that the temper tends to center around the center of percussion.

Nice work, thanks for posting:) I'd be interested in knowing which kami made each blade.
The only one I've etched is a 16.5' WWII by the Amtrak kami. It is hardened from the sweet spot all the way to the tip.

Greg
