What is the way the temper lines revealed on different knives?

There is a pic of a beautiful Bowie on an old calender I have.
The blade looks to be satin finished and has two beautful curved temper lines in it.
I believe I have seen some on polished blades too. I am famiiar with the clay that is put on before heat treatng, like in the Japenese blades, but somehow I feel these are different.

I have a couple of old blades I suspect of having these lines if I could just bring them out.
Thanks in advance.

The civilized man sleeps behind locked doors in the city while the naked savage sleeps (with a knife) in a open hut in the jungle.

To bring out temper lines you can use a few methods. 1. Vinegar, 2. Archer Circuit board etchant (Ferric Chloride) cut3 or 4 to 1 with water be sure to neutralize with TSP. 3. Rub the blade with ground Pumice moxed with water, create a slurry and rub with wooden stick to bring out Hamon.
